Can anyone recommend a new battery for my Nomad?

I have an 03 1500 Nomad and need a new battery. The only battery I have ever bought for a motorcycle was for my Shadow ACE Tourer. It was a Motobatt and was an awesome battery. But does anyone have a recommendation on a battery for my Nomad that may be a little less expensive and still be good? Should I go with Gel, AGM or standard? Thanks.

Same here - I have a new one for my ST arriving today (Amazon).

You pay more for a YUASA but "made in Japan" is better than "made in China". Especially when it comes to riding the wide open spaces in the West.

"Yuasa Battery, Inc. has been manufacturing motorcycle batteries in the U.S.A. to uncompromisingly high standards since 1979."

Taken from their web site.

Just ordered this one. https://www.batterystuff.com/powersp...TX20CH-BS.html Says it's Yuasa's specialty reseller's house brand. But this one is an AGM sealed unit. Anyone know if it has to be charged before use? And can I just use my tender to charge it? Thanks.

In the spec section it says Charged: ready to install. I'm assuming that means that it comes charged already?

I use a Battery Tender to MAINTAIN my AGM battery. If you are asking if a special device is required for an AGM battery, the answer is no. I do believe any ol' charger/tender/maintainer is compatible with an AGM (as well as lead acid) battery. I think the lithium ion batteries, such as Shorai brand, do require a special charger, rather, the aforementioned AGM/lead acid chargers/tenders will not work.

Note that not all Battery Tender branded devices are equal. Some, like mine, are strictly "trickle" chargers. BT does make some devices that will charge in addition to maintain/trickle.

I welcome any and all necessary corrections

I have Battery tender Lithium Ion battery. I use a maintainer made by Battery tender. It shuts off and on to keep the battery at maximum.
If the lithium Ion battery ever is drained to below 4 volts I will need a full 2 volt charger to bring it back up. I've been running it 5 years and have never had it run down. I seldom hook up the maintainer. I've let it set for 3 weeks without needing it.

I bought a Decca AGM battery last year, worked great all year, put it on the tender in the fall and the damn tender went bonkers and killed it. It was a 6/12 model and the damn switch went south and went to 6V. Anyway, I had to use a 12V trickle charger to bring it up so the tender would work, after I did it works great.
Not too long ago I left he switch on accessories and killed it deader than dead. Same deal, put it on the trickle charger for 1/2 hour or so drawing about 3A, dropped down to 1.75 and the voltage went up to 10 so I could use my maintainer, took a full charge over night and it's still good.
Mind you saying that, I don't know what the reserve would be now, it probably didn't do the battery any good killing it that bad.............M
