Charging port for 2001 1500 Classic

Good day!

I want to install a charging port and/or a receptacle that I can plug in a 12V plug on my Classic. I thought I would ask the group and see what the collective "you" might recommend. I was thinking of a handlebar mount, but am open to suggestions. Also, want to see if anyone has had success with the stem mounted Ram phone/GPS mounts. TIA

I have something similar to this from Shark. Bought it a few yrs back. Mine has 2 USB ports and the cig adapter port. Also shows my batt voltage so its a double whammy. Has an on off switch too. Has served me well no issues.

If you're not married to the handlebar mount option, you might consider installing in a windshield bag. I use an 8" Raider brand bag. It may be slightly less convenient if you're constantly plugging and unplugging, but it does give a much cleaner look.

https://www.amazon.com/Raider-BCS-92.../dp/B004DZ1P8Y

It houses my Ipod and a little amplifier to run a pair of handlebar mounted speakers. With the wiring properly dressed along the existing harnesses, you can't tell that any of the electronics are even there.

I hid mine under the top triple tree clamp to help it stay a little more out of the weather. I live in Florida and it has been known to rain every now and then.

If you have a batter tender here is a USB attachment that works well....but that shark audio device looks sweet!

Yeah I like the shark unit also. The one I have (post #3) has 2 usb ports so I have an additional charging point.
Also, the unit has a quick disconnect that you can unplug and take the whole thing off the bars if you are in a not so friendly area lol

I have one of the Battery Tender USB connectors. Is there any sort of voltage regulation built into it I wonder? I don't think there is, at least not that I could discern from their website.

I cooked a battery in my phone a few years ago at work due to plugging it into my computer's USB port. The signal was poor to nonexistent. The battery would discharge quickly with the phone trying to get a signal all day long. I was lazy and didn't want to locate an AC charger at home so one day I just tethered to my computer via USB cable. After 4 or 5 months I noticed the gel case on my phone wasn't fitting snug. Upon closer inspection, I noticed the back cover was bulging as was the touchscreen! LOL I would connect the moment I sat down at work each morning and disconnect 9 hours later when I went home.

Perhaps your mileage may vary? My phone was an HTC Droid DNA which I loved early. Maybe newer phones have built in voltage regulation of some sort...

Old School. I like the one you referenced from Amason. Put a wrap of the black hockey tape (the cloth type) around the handle bar before clamping. It won't move. I have always used the tape for stuff like that and hand grips. Doesn't dry out, stays sticky and protects the metal bar.
