REPLACING cam plug

Has anyone ever replaced cam plug? Not asking about temporary fixes, only the replacement of the plug itself. Is it easy to do? I have rocker covers off and looks like I need to remove head also to do this. Wondering about what will come off with head (it seems the lifters(?) will) ? Just looking for a heads up as to what I might come across or need to look out for.

http://www.kawasakionlineparts.com.a...head#component

In the link it seems I need the following parts 92066A and 11004.

The front cylinder head(if not both) appears to have 'gasket goo' as a sealant.
I'm forseeing that this could be an issue for reassembly, is there a gasket glue/goo that I should be ordering, should it be required?

What do you use to clean surfaces prior to gasket reinstallation?

I'm new to working on motors like this, please forgive stupid questions.
For reference I am in Australia.

Unless they're damaged you don't need to change the cam plugs.

They are made from a hard plastic, just take it out and clean it thoroughly, the put your choice of silicone sealant around the edges and reinstall.

I use the Permatex black, I don't know what is available there.

Just don't skimp on the quality.

As far as cleaning goes, most of the old silicone will peel off.

What doesn't peel off you'll need to scrape off.

I recommend a plastic scraper, that way you have less chance to damage or scratch the head and create sealing issues.

After removing the silicone, I usually use brake cleaner to ensure that the new silicone will 'stick' well and create a good seal.

MaKaw has their own silicone sealant, but any good quality silicone will work.

Cleaning all the old silicone off is the key, new silicone will not stick to cured silicone. That's why it's so hard to reseal a bathroom tub or shower, getting the old silicone off is next to impossible..............Mike
