All states should follow the example set by Kansas. I have done this several times myself and sure everyone here has done it at least once. When I have been sitting for 2 minutes or longer I'm gone.

"if the signal "fails" to turn green after a "reasonable period of time.""

I hope they didn't use that phrase in the law. They should specify an exact amount of time.

What I consider reasonable may not be what the cop or judge considers reasonable.

Now to digress a tad. Every light around here that my bike would not change, I reported to the local cities. Every one reported was adjusted and now works.

If you've got lights that don't change for you, report them. The cities will adjust them.

I'm not sure, but it seems that in Kentucky people in all types of vehicles frequently ignore red lights. It is an adventure.

One Republican lawmaker unsuccessfully tried to strip the red-light provision, saying, "I see no skeletal remains of motorcyclists sitting at red lights that never change."

Now that is one open minded lawmaker.

Missouri did last year as well. I've never had a problem on the Nomad, but generally I can see where the sensors are and aim to stop right in the middle. I have been stuck on my old 900 and eventually ran it when no one was around.

I run them if they don't change, law or no law. I have yet to be ticketed or rescued from perpetuity.

Oklahoma just passed this law last fall too. My group that I ride with, we carry a copy of the law on our bike just in case some of the LEO's don't want to reason with us.

Surely, if there's no other vehicles around to trigger the light to change, then no one's going to see us jump the light anyway?

I always jump a particular set of traffic lights on my way to work at 4am coz my bike just don't trigger the sensor

We had one light that even a auto would not trip every time let alone a bike and the campus police liked to watch it and give tickets so we started leaving out the back way.

One local bike shop stopped selling the magnets you put on your bike to trigger the light. He said after he learned a trick from a stop light installer he felt bad about selling useless crap. He said if you place your front tire at the point where the trigger wires cross you can get the light to change with a bicycle. I've been using this method and it has never failed me.
