oil gear replacement

I have a 1999 nomad and really like it a lot. After reading up on this subject I decided to call Mr. Oglesby and order a jog kit . When I told him I had 38000 miles on it he said that I was already in the top percent that had not failed and suggested to go and ride until this winter and then pull it down and check and see if it has been changed or not. I was wondering if any of you still have the pog with hi mileage and no problems. Kawasaki used plastic oil gears in most all of there bikes before we had these problems.

I made it to 23,955 before I replaced the POG. The teeth on the POG were over half gone.

Sounds like 38,000 is quite a bit. Glad I didn't have to contend with that. Can't believe they would ever put plastic in it.

I don't think there are too many Nomads left with the original gear, you must have been gentle on the motor to get that far. Id get it replaced over the winter since that plastic is not getting any newer as time passes.

Your probably right. IT may have already bee changed since Iam not the original owner. I noticed that the whole crankcase even on the left side is chromed and the ones i have seen are not' I do not know if you could get them like that or not. Maybe he or she has already had it torn down and then had it chromed because who ever had it keep it looking good and spent some money on paint and extras.Wish me luck and I will let you know whats up when I take a look at it. Thanks for answering my questions. Could you get them already chromed?

You should be able to contact Kawasaki USA and have them check if the pog has been replaced under warranty. You would have to give them the VIN, and they could look it up.

Kawasaki made a chrome inner cover for the left side of the 1500 motor. I have it on my 99' 1500. They still can be had from ( )-bay for about $127.00. You can barely see it in the signature pics; just in front of the boot on the swingarm. They also offered chrome neck covers for a while too.

I'd want better proof than that. Have you had a dealer look up the VIN?

You can call Kawasaki USA yourself and give them the VIN, they can tell you right away if its had the pog replaced.

Get a set of Judges washers and a Meanie spring and put them in. While you're in there just look at the oil gear. If it's plastic get a JOG and install. If it's metal go riding.

You can do the spring and washers in a little over an hour. Just lay the tools out and go for it.

I did one today in about 45 minutes.
