Thoughts on what to bring for an 1100 mile trip.

Have bought a 2002 Valkyrie....finally! Located in Austin Tx. and will be driving it back to Central Florida. Flying out on the 14th and leaving the next morning. There are no bags on the bike. There is an approx. 18" long sissy bar bag with an expansion bag above it from what I understand.
Have to keep bulk down so what would you bring? I can ship a few items out to the present owner if needed. Figuring two long days on the road.

What do you bring with you when you go for a nice day ride?

I would pack my personal belonging, some tools, a change of clothes and proper riding gear.

Don't over think it.

Since space is limited, keep the list short. You'll need appropriate gear: helmet, gloves, jacket, boots, etc - which you'll be wearing, not stuffing into the sissy bar bag.

Since it's a two day ride, maybe a shirt, socks and underwear, toothbrush/toothpaste, rain gear. Use your imagination.

You guys keep mentioning toilet paper. Do gas stations not have toilet paper where you are from? Can you not make it to the gas station? Presuming he's stopping every 100 miles or so for gas, I wouldn't worry about packing a role. I have yet found myself it a situation where I contemplated crapping on the side of the road.

That would be assuming the bike doesn't break down and can make it to a gas station before nature calls...

I'm thinking along the same lines as Jared, I've been carrying around a roll of toilet paper in a Crown Royal bag, in my trunk for 5~6 years now, and have never used it. But then again, it may be like carrying a pistol.............. "It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it".

-Spare bulbs
-Spare fuses
-Spare spark plugs
-Wrenches specifically for this bike

The guy who is selling the bike should have these and might give them away (the first three items anyway).

I'd also try to familiarize myself with the bike as much as I possibly can before hitting the road (Oil Level, Coolant Level, Access to Battery, Fuses, Controls, etc.) Can you get an owner's manual prior to your trip?

Other items to think about:

-Emergency contact list
-Registration/Insurance Papers
-Credit card with enough credit on
-Gas tank range
-Rain gear

Having said all of that, I'd say just enjoy this trip, I think it'll be great to ride your new scoot 1100 miles home. On that note, I'd get a good camera and document the entire trip.

Good luck and ride safe.

One more thing - I don't think Valkyries are known for their fuel mileage. There was a couple of them in a group I used to ride with and we were always stopping so they could fill up. So watch your fuel until you get a feel for how far a tank will take you.
