Maybe it was one of those bikes and side cars they use in the circus. Maybe a couple of little people making a run for it...funny story.

Ah... that makes sense to do a loop of sorts...

Ride safe... and stop when tired...

Today was a really good day. After a hearty complimentary breakfast of a bagel, cream cheese and OJ at the hotel in Alamogordo, I was ready for the day. US-70 leaves Alamogordo and you start gaining elevation almost immediately. The highway through the mountains is twisty and slow going, and the first 15 miles is a "New Mexico Safety Corridor", which I fondly refer to as a "New Mexico Revenue Enhancement Corridor". Essentially, if you get caught speeding in one of these, the fines are doubled. Once you get to Cloudcroft at about 9,000', it's all downhill from there.

There was only about 40 miles of mountains and then you get into gently rolling hills and prairie. You could literally see for miles in every direction. Gradually, the rolling hills gave way to flat prairie. As I left Artesia NM, I started seeing oil rigs. Hundreds of them, if not thousands and all the way to Hobbs, which is just west of the Texas border. Once I entered TX, I still saw them occasionally, but not nearly as many. My plan was to eat lunch in Hobbs, but I'll be damned if I could find a restaurant there. Not even a McDonald's. I pressed on to Lamesa TX, where I found a McD's and ate a quick lunch.

I just checked into the Best Western Whitten South in Abilene. It's a pretty decent motel. The desk clerk offered me a beer when I checked in. My kind of place.

Today wasn't as warm as yesterday. If was downright chilly in the mountains, but once I hit the prairie, it stayed around 75°, according to the gauge in my dash. Not too warm, not too cold. I'd say it was just right.

Miles today: 429.1 Riding time: 7:09

A bagel, cream cheese and OJ is not a breakfast

A waffle with pure maple syrup, two sausage patties, a large whole milk and a coffee to wash everything down is a breakfast

I know, your health and all that. Ride safe Scott.

Sounds like a nice trip Scott.
Harleys have a gauge that says not too cold, not too warm, wow I would of settled for a regular thermometer.

I was being sarcastic. I don't think a bagel and OJ is much of a breakfast, either.

Gene "Wanderer", his daughter and I rode to Fort Smith AR yesterday. I wanted to visit the HD dealer there and pick up a shirt. 350 miles, most of it in rain.My bike is a mess.

The temperature dropped yesterday and the high was probably 65 degrees at 7:00 AM and it went down from there. The big BBQ feast that Nightmare throws was last night and it was cold.

The low in Antlers yesterday was 53*. Cold??? You boys from Pheonix must be soft!!! Turn on your heated grips. A few years ago I rode home the last 50 miles in wet weather with a spit of snow here and there.
