Ready to hit the road

I have spent all morning detailing my bike in preparation for the trip to Antlers for the rally. I'll be leaving early tomorrow morning to try and beat the metro area commuter traffic.

I have started a new blog called "103ci" you can find it at http://103ci.wordpress.com . I'll try to update it regularly this time.

For those of you attending the rally, be safe and I'll see you there. For those not going, I'll be all too happy to tell you what you missed.

Hope you made good time on your first day...

I would have been tempted to ride north through Payson and then on north-east through the White Mountains to 40 East. Might be a bit cold at the higher elevations though I suppose.

Ride safe...

That's actually the route I'm taking home I'll be crossing New Mexico on US-60, which will bring me through Springerville and Show Low. Instead of taking 260 to Payson, I'll just stay on US-60 through Show Low which will pass through Salt River Canyon to Globe and then on to Apache Jct and Mesa. I can just hop on the Loop 202 in Mesa and it will take me to Chandler.

It was warmer than I expected. Highs in Phoenix were supposed to be 103 or so. It was fairly warm from Safford all the way to Alamogordo. I stopped for lunch in Las Cruces. Fairly warm to me would be "hot" to most on the forum, it just depends on what you're used to. It was a nice ride, 421.5 miles and 7:34 driving time according to my GPS. I was fighting a stiff headwind on I-10 for about 50 miles, my gas mileage sucked on that stretch. I've never been to this part of NM, it's quite nice.

I thought I'd mention this. Somewhere between Deming NM and Las Cruces I was rolling down I-10 at about 80 MPH, traffic wasn't really heavy, and I see "something" up ahead of me in my lane. It seemed to appear out of nowhere, but what really happened is the truck in front of me went around it. I was closing on it fast, and it turned out to be two guys with a motorcycle/sidecar rig.

What was unusual is the hack was on the left side of the motorcycle, which I assumed must be a British model. Anyway, these two clowns were doing about 40-45 MPH on I-10, being passed by everything on the road. I changed lanes and passed them like they were going backwards. I don't even recall seeing taillights, they must have been small. At a distance it was very hard to judge if they were moving. I don't know where they are going, but I hope they make it unharmed.
