Hey Bob, what did you end up doing for the rack? I looked at the racks on the Wompus site and I believe they are a little steep. I know that I will get bashed, because everyone says they are the best rack you can buy, but still $220.00?

Wompus racks are worth the peace of mind that there will be no failure, the price isn't that bad.

Well you could go to the expense of buying the equipment, learning how to weld, find a material supplier and make your own.
I'm not a fan of Wompus by any stretch of the imagination but he apparently makes a quality product and as they say, you get what you pay for.
No I don't know who they are so don't ask

I had one. Top quality material, welds, finish, etc. Custom fit your your make/model bike, blah, blah, blah. If you guys can find the materials, fit it to your bike, weld it up and have it powdercoated for $200 (assuming you're a top notch welder/fabricator), I'd say to do it yourself. Dave Shelly is a qualified machinist (I think) and didn't want to pay for some parts so he made them himself. More power to him. You might (or might not) be in the same boat. For 99% of us, there just isn't any better choice.

Well, without any sarcastic undertones I must say, "That's quite nice and gentlemanly of you Tim!"

It's your kindliness, tolerance of folks short comings, generosity, paying accolades when due,, that makes not just me but thousands of folks glad to be a member here and to know you.

You get funnier every time you post Mike
I don't know about members being glad to know me. I rode 1800 miles to get to Colorado to meet members at the rally and the only person who talked to me was Cindy.
Everyone else would see me coming and not make eye contact
