Thanks Waterman. Great thread and gets me even more motivated to ride 1700 miles solo to hang out with some people I haven't met yet!

Other than a 2400 mile trip with my brother last year, nearly all my miles have been solo the last few years. Friends are becoming light day riders if they ride at all and I'm going the other direction - I want hundreds of miles in a day. Hence the Vaquero purchase last year.

This forum and the rally are perfect place to get ideas on gear, rides, repairs, etc and meet people with an interest in riding. I'm looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can in Colorado!

The idea is to enjoy the ride/scenery, keep its safe, enjoy the company, and have fun. Riding aggresively and fast is best done on your own.

That said, our small groups and comraderie has been great. I strongly encourage newbies to jump in and try one.

It's best if everyone knows where we are going and how to get there. Generally maps are posted months in advance. If there is a small split-up in the group, what's the harm?
It's best to split the ride up into multiple smaller groups. Keep it under 20 bikes for groups, less than 15 is even better.

Everyone should have a map for the day, with directions written as well. If a separation occurs no harm. It has always worked in the past and will into the
future. Ride your own pace and be safe.

Just be careful if you ride with glwilson. If Hurricane Estes is around....he will be sure to ride through it just for the thrill of it, he has valuable experience with that type of sortie now.....

The West? You mean like Bakersfield or someplace? Estes Park is considered "the West".

No Custer is considered West. Estes Park is near Catalina I'm told!

Dave thinks that Estes is more like North Carolina. Heck, we had one in Crescent City, CA and he must consider that Canada.
