I'm no expert Doc.....and I'm sure one of the more informed guru's will give an opinion, but I'll wager this smooth surface backing plate with a 7" filter will flow much better than the 9" with the nondirect flowing and not smooth stock plate, especially with the solenoids, wiring still attached.

I think the 9" filter always looked out of place on the Nomad. It definitely was a bandaid after-thought attempt at best. this Chuckster model allows a very clean and stealth look to it for a decent price!

That's good to know...if I decide I don't like the 7x3, I can replace it with a 7x2.

How many connections do you have to make to attach this backing plate to a 1600? Do you have to take out your solenoids?

Since the idle solenoids mount to the OEM backing plate, yes - you would have to remove them. If you really like the solenoids, I suppose you could mount them on Chuckster's plate, though.

If my plate comes in time, I plan on doing the install on Saturday. I'll take some purty pictures for y'all.

Update: not looking good for this weekend. As far as I can tell, the K&N 7" filter assembly hasn't shipped yet.

My 7" backing plate came in the mail today. Thanks, Chuckster!!

Unfortunately, my K&N 7" filter assembly shipped today via UPS Ground, so I doubt I'll have it by this weekend. It will probably be the following weekend before I can install it.

Well, maybe not - the filtersandintakes.com website says they ship out of LA. So it might be here on Friday since Phoenix is less than a day away. I'll keep my fingers crossed...

Update: UPS says the K&N kit will be here Friday! I just have to go to ACE to pick up some odd hardware and I'll be good to go.

I'll try to remember to take pictures of my work. I usually get so focused on what I'm doing that I forget the camera. ???

Its for a bracket that's on the back of the stock plate.
Haven't had my stock plate off yet so not exactly sure what it holds.
But the holes are for reinstalling the bracket using pop-rivets.

It's to attach a wire loom you need to remove from the stock plate. Joe says to use 1/8" pop rivets.
