But I'm looking to make it breathe easier and keep the stock pipes. Perhaps remove the silencers eventually.

I also want to keep the stock air cleaner on the left side and a balanced look for both sides.

Will this backing plate allow this?
You are looking at the Caddmann mod likely then. It allows you to leave the left side stock if you wish and changes only the right side. You can change both sides for a more balanced look. This mod uses the existing backplate so there is very little that changes. It is also very cost effective compared to the complete aftermarket intakes (Hypercharger, BAK, etc).

Here are a couple links for the mod and there are a bunch of discussions in the forum as well. The first one is a step by step that was done, and the creator of the mod (Caddmann) comments on how good a job the person does of the procedure.

I saw that in another post by Valdez. I emailed my legislator and told him not to vote for it. Arnold is a major biker and I would hope at least until he gets out of office he'd not sign this bill if it makes its way through.

Why is everybody going to a 7 inch K&N after alot of guys bought 9 inch ones?? the K&N 9 incher is only $40 which is cheaper than the 7 inch. Just pondering why the shift to 7 inch.

That's one advantage of this plate.....using a 7" filter allows you to use stock dog bowls which measure approx 8" in diameter.

Then you don't have to change anything on the left side to have a balanced look.

Believe it or not, the 2" difference in diameter makes a big difference in the appearance on the right side. It doesn't look like you have an air cleaner off a 72 Chevelle on your Nomad

I'd still like to get some type of decorative cover for the crossover tube on the left side, and then I'd just pull everything off. I am not eager to destroy the crossover tube.

BD - I see where your going with this and I have same idea! If you need to swap back to stock - couple of bolts / you can leave the solenoids on the old backing plate / put it back / do your smog test / remove as needed!

Do I have to remove the crossover?

I agree with CJ.....the 2" makes a huge difference.
The 9" Spectre just looks too massive to me. Overkill.

As mentioned before, 7" gives you more options......go with the stock dog bowls OR open filter.

And you don't have to remove the crossover tube

This looks like something I could put on the nomad and momma wouldn't even notice.

I like it.

I read the original post to say that you had to remove the left side and plumbing, missed something there and thought that was required.

How do you contact "Chuckster" to get one of these plates?

I've been running the Thunder "Stealth" (AS SEEN HERE) intake for 4 years now, and this is just about the exact same thing. You can leave the crossover tube in, or take it out. You don't even have to disconnect it from the left side. This does replace the stock backing plate. I do run the stock "dog bowl" with a HD EVO cover over it. The K&N filter that goes with the Thunder round air kit is just under 7" diameter, and 2" tall. the K&N part # is ......... E3402, and you can find it HERE

seems to me its just cosmetic. A 9 inch filter will probably flow more air than a 7 incher. So I guess people are just wanting a smaller filter regardless of what it does, which is cool. maybe im missing something here. But the caddman conversion is the most cost effective way of doing the mod. and getting the same effect. :-)
