Has anyone here put a car tire on a Nomad? This peaked my interest mostly because I'm a tight wad. Penny pincher, frugal, cheap.
I have a funny feeling that BD's going to very soon.............

Remember BD....documentation is the key.......

[quote:vw93mrdu] I like the way it looks but I won't try it 'till BD tests it and gives everyone the OK :)
I read up on it on the Dark Side and I'm going to do it when I buy a new tire this spring. Just need to do some research on tire size and make. I like the idea of 3 or 4 times the miles on a set of rubber and better stopping and traction. I'm sold. [/quote:vw93mrdu]

Keep us posted idaho.......what kind of tire, tire pressure, etc.

I like it. There are several 195/55/16 tires available that would be about the same sidewall height of my 180/60/16 that I'm running now according to the tire calculator. I'll probably be ready for a new tire this spring also.

Check this out. Don't know how much pressure this guy has in the tire.

Thing I noticed are how quiet his pipes are. He was scraping floorboards. But most of all, that is a snow tire. In these colder states you see this type of winter tire for sale. They have very soft rubber and alot of seips for traction. After winter you take them off because they wear out too fast. They seem like a much better match for a bike as opposed to those hard, high mileage tires that slide on the white lines when you come to a stop sign and suck in the rain.

Nomad "Dark Side" car tire

I've been reading various threads for the past year about using car tires on bikes. I hadn't really been considering actually doing it on my bike because I figured I would get better mileage out of my rear tire than others have been reporting since I am an old fart and I don't run it hard. I was wrong. I've got 7299 miles on my 2006 Nomad and the frigging rear tire has about .01 tread depth left in the center. The minimum depth for speeds up to 80mph is .08. I keep between 40 and 42 lbs of air in the rear. I had already decided that when I replaced the rear I would go to a 180/70 Metzler. That tire will cost around $190. Considering that I can get an equivalent car tire for around $75 and it will last 3 to 5 times longer I'm jumping to the Dark Side! I haven't decided on exactly which size tire I'm going to get. Once the holidays are over I'll measure all the clearances around the rear tire and then get the whatever I can fit in there. Once I'm done, I'll post the results.

OK...So does that mean that:

1.He only rides on freeways.

2. That you can't get the tire off the big flat surface.

or

3. Sidewall wear isn't a problem.

I doubt my dealer will mount on for me, but I'm going to ask. I'd love to give it a try.
