I figured every garage should have a smoke area and this seems as good a place as any to discuss puros and other long leaf blends. Now we'll find out who is a BOTL (brother of the leaf) on the board and who is going to wander along and slide down the slippery slope

After much thought and the love of cigars expressed on the General board. Cigars discussion will stay in Blowndodge's Garage! R&R still apply ie: very small pics, no bloviating LOL. When you find a (new) good one, pass the word! THE SMOKING LAMP IS LIT!!

What brand of humi do you guys have and what brand and type of cigar would be a good starting point for a newbie gar smaker like me?

Cigars come made in components. Wrapper, binder, filler in that order outside toward the middle. You want to start off with a "natural" "claro" Wrapper. Maybe a "Candela" wrapper. It's green in color, probably the mildest. Binder holds the filler together. Filler is the heart of the smoke and it comes from finely cut up tobaccos. Something of a Churchill size or corona for now. BD smokes Double Coronas 7 1/2 X 52 gauge. Guage is based on 1/64th of an inche so 52ring guage is 52/64 of an inch thick.

You might also look into getting a Connecticut filler since it is a more mild tobacco. Tends to have the natural wrapper. When you go to a smoke shop, you can ask for these and get pointed in the right direction.

If you are really, really brave, you can start with a maduro, but be prepared. These have been aged longer and have a much darker colored wrapper. Also have a much stouter taste.

Sort of like drinking a Shiner (connecticut) as compared to a Shiner dark (maduro).

Tabacco from the Dominican Republic is generally more mild than from Honduras or Nicaragua. This is a good starting point Trip since aside from Cuba these are the countries we're dealing with.

I'm fortunate as I live close to

and http://www.famous-smoke.com/ and go to their retail stores. Most of my sticks I win on auctions from both of these sites. They have various tasting and rolling events which include free beer and quite often a beer promotion going on at the same time. Rocky Patel shows up at CI's downtown store quite often.

The Famous home site is great for explaining the composition of the cigars. The best buys are on cigarbid and there's alot to choose from and bid on. You bounce to the homepage and find the normal price and try not to pay more than 60% of that.
