Oil Filter/What a hassle!
Purolator: PureONE PL Model Filters NOT for Motorcycles
1) Purolator PureONE PL14610 oil filter is a automotive oil filter ONLY and is NOT tested OR recommended by them for motorcycle application. They stated that the type of filter paper used is not acceptable for motorcycle engines and also that they have too high a pressure drop. 2) Purolator PureONE ML16817 is their recommended ST1300 motorcycle filter, which thay stated is 96% efficient at 30 micron (They say this is a very respectable efficiency). I wanted to post this as it seems disconcerting to me especially with so many people in these forums posting that they use a PureONE PL model car oil filter. Just a little info, look around check it out! Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Oil Filter/What a hassle!
Scott :First, Gadget's site has these listed as will FIT from years of others experience. It does not mean that THEY ARE listed by any company to fit, so that needs to be addressed. What needs to be addressed Not really sure how you were turning it into a ------- oil thread. I guess my thread start out looking for choices, and opinions and turned into a "I didn't want to go there oil page to a conglameration of prices, cost, many opinions and thoughts But not HELP not you opinin Scot

Oil Filter/What a hassle!
I used to use the PureONE PL filter, but after talking to a HD tech, I started using either the Bosch, or the Walmart ST. He told me the micron filtration on the PureOne is too small, and will starve a HD motor of oil. It is probably one of the very best filters out there for autos, but it is actually too good to use on motorcycles (not enough force behind the pressure on bikes).

Mac Ive seen Wix on a lot of different sites and it is very popular, I didnt know it was a NAPA product, I'll keep that in mind for the future, Thanks
Schoeney, thats about all I can afford these days, the pints will probably cost more than a gallon (gas) soon. Thanks for the response, guys! PS went to another Walmart and found the St-7317, cheap. |

Oil Filter/What a hassle!
I used the Purolator for several changes, but after pressure concerns I have switched to the Super Tech filter. Plus I don't like the color or finish of the Purolator. The Super Tech can be had for less than $3 US. They fit a lot vehicles so finding them is a treat. I buy em' when I sees em'.

Oil Filter/What a hassle!
KN is very expensive I think around here it is $15.00 US, that's too much for a dang oil filter! I found a Walmart in a town not too far from me today that had the ST for like $2.78, that's a good deal, I stopped at my local Kawa dealer and mentioned the ST filter, he got very smug and laughed at me, and said "Oh come on, a Walmart filter? Hmmm wonder where he's coming from $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Oil Filter/What a hassle!
I've been buying the Bosch 3300 for the past few oil changes. Prior to that I bought the ST-7317.

Oil Filter/What a hassle!
For me,........when it comes down to the engine I don't scrimp!
Yes, some car things might fit like, oil, oil filters, air filters however they are all "NOT" the same,.......you do get what what you pay for. You will not notice a problem instantly, it might take years to show up. Even exhaust,....................Stock is stock for a reason. My 2 cents worth.

Stock is to meet EPA BS.. Some of which just might be damage causing if your engine pings on hi test.
WIX filters cost a little more. Wix is one of th best filters on the market. I also run them on everything else I have, which includes a 1985 Volvo turbo, with the same never rebuilt engine and turbo unit. That should say something. That cars has 0ver 300,000 miles now and unless someone before me put in a clutch it might be the oem clutch. I bought the car in 97, with just under 100,000 on it. There is one brand filter I will not run, that's Fram. Used to be these were good filters, but the company sold out and the new folks build junk. I had 2 of these pack it up inside the can on my volvo with in 20 minutes. There is a oil gauge and it went to 0 psi in less than 10 minuyes after a oil change. I pulled that filter off and installed the 2nd one. It dies as quick. Never again..... I used a pipe cutter to open the cans and the filter elements had torn off their holders and were packed up hard in the oil out exits.

Oil Filter/What a hassle!
I remember the first oil change, that filter was on so tight!!!
I had to poke a screwdriver through it so I could turn it to get it off, and then I didn't know if it would work. I use "K&N" oil filters, The nut on the top makes for easy changes.

With all due respect; If we fell for the old "you get what you pay for" propaganda we would all be riding Harleys and BMW's, wearing Aerostich suits, and Shoie helmets, using nothing but synthetic oil , installing Daylong seats, filling up with 92 octane, and no one would have heard of the Darkside ;) Just sayin. Proof is in the pudding....let's ask our members.........has anyone here that has been using the ST filter for some length of time (on any bike) had engine problems related to the filter? How about engine problems with "other" filters? Not saying the ST is the "best" filter but I suspect most of us change our oil filter so often that the filter quality is never really tested.
