I have read a few threads about the 1700 drive sprocket and shaft stripping out and what should be done to help prevent it. My question is at what mileage should the washer be replaced and nut re-torqued. Thanks.

It all depends upon product's quality and your travelled miles. Not any exact time or miles are concerned at all.
