Help VN1700 Front wheel Removal

I am trying to remove the front tire on my 2012 VN1700 Nomad. I see the two pinch bolts, but do I need special tools to remove the shaft?

This bike is new to me; my VN1600 burned up on the highway, and I replaced it with the 1700.

Any help would be appreciated.

Here is a LINK from the shop manual that explains that process.

Thanks, but its where I get to
Loosen:
Front Axle Clamp Bolts [A]
Front Axle [B]

Is there a special tool to loosen the front axle?

Is there a work around?

Thanks.

If I remember correctly the hex in the axle is 22mm. If you have any pressed steel spark plug wrenches try one inside the hex in the axle then screw the axle out ?

Or order one of these.

I think what I did was I bought a piece of 7/8th hex bar 2 inches long and ground the flats to 22mm.

Assuming the 1700 Nomad is the same as the 1700 Voyager, put a spark plug socket in backwards with a short extension inside and it will screw right out.

The tool kit under the seat has a spark plug tool that fits the front axle. It worked fine when I removed my front axle on the Voyager!
