Americade

Americade is less than 2 months away ... Anyone going? I am registered and have a campsite reserved at the State Park 2 miles north of the Village of Lake George on 9N. Will be there from the Monday to the Saturday ... Maybe longer before heading south for a month or 3.

Americade is one of the best Demo Ride friendly rallies out there. Set in the Adirondack Mountains, it is a motorcycle paradise. At night the town is wall to wall motorcycles and great to stroll along getting ideas for what might work on your bike ... or stuff you never thought of. And there are vendors ... Lots of vendors ... The Rally is well organized and this will be my 8th in 13 years.

So, will there be a Nomad presence? Anyone going? If so, any ideas as to where and when a meet up could be arranged?

Ive never been, but my neighbour has gone a few times. He says its one of his favorites. I doubt I'll be going, but if I do, it would be just for a weekend, and if we all have our newly required passports.

I have been the last three years. Not going this year for a number of reasons.
Our Finger Lakes get togather is that month.
Last year the town police started giving out parking tickets if you didn't have a permit and a lot of people didn't even know about the permits.
Also, I heard, they set up road blocks to give tickets for non approved helmets or what ever else they could find. Alough I must admit I was there from Monday to Thursday and never got stopped.

What do you need a permit for?

They sell a parking permit for 5 or 7 dollars or something like that. If you buy one you can park on main st without putting money in the meter.

With the money the town makes during Americade you gotta wonder why they would try to nickel and dime and harass the 30 to 40 odd thousand who show up during the week.

My thoughts exactly. There was a Cop writing up some bikes for no money in the meter. You can get three bike in a parking space so thats three tickets for one meters time being up.
I asked him, "Are you really writing up people for parking?"
He told me he was just doing his job.
I said "The town wants motorcyclists to come and spend their money and then they get harassed for stuff like this? Don't be surprised if next years event is down on attendance."
He just shrugged his shoulders and kept on writing.

It may end up like Daytona where they are pricing themselves right out of the event. A few years ago there were no vacancy's there and the forced people to book rooms for a week at a time, I here that now there are vacancies the last couple years.
