rough, ROUGH start

bike doesnt like to start, 2000 1500 fi... last 2 times ive started it, its had to be jumped... basically for more .. power to it... could it just be teh battery dieing??? if i trickle charge the battery outside of teh bike and then put it in, it still doesnt like to start on its own, but if i put a mobile jump on it, it starts and what not... guess not enough cranking amps for the battery... correct me if im wrong please

Got a volt meter? After a good battery is fully charged and an hr or so has passed to let the high surface charge settle down, it should read 12.7 volts or a bit better. Try cranking the bike with volt meter attached to the battery. If it drops below 12 volts, the battery is weak and it is doubtful it will start the bike.

Yep, I had the same problem with my 05' FI 1500 a couple of years ago. Battery was weak.

Take the battery to an auto parts store and have it load tested.

Its the battery as mentioned, they will crank with a weak battery for a while, but not fire. boosting will make it fire, but then you have to clear out the raw fuel in the cylinders, thats why it will run so rough for a few seconds when it finally does start.
