Actually not a bad question. It depends a lot on physical capabilities of the rider. Bad knees and other injuries often determine the safest way to get on and off the bike.

I have an easier time of getting my left leg up and over, than trying to swing my right leg. I end up kicking the backrest with my right leg.

By mounting and dismounting from the high side(right) you place yourself in a safer position when dismounting from the bike. What happens, god forbid, if your kickstand spring/stand fails? You are standing where it will fall.

If stopping on a shoulder, a high side dismount places you against the inside of the shoulder, AWAY from oncoming traffic.... Let's think safe and smart gang!

Not down here... We drive on the left... You should see how far a Voyager leans over when it's parked on the left side of the road with that little bitty OEM side-stand.

Welcome to the forum "Texas nomad". Fill out your sig line and profile so we know a little bit about what you ride (other posts mention a Nomad?) and where you are. What you do for a living though is also obvious from your other posts... so

from another LEO also with 19yrs in the job... still counting.

No kidding! I read through them anyways. Imagine my disappointment, no one uses a chain host for mounting!

Just like a horse. Always mount from the left side. Left foot goes in the stirrup. Right leg swings over the saddle.

Doesnt matter really. I just like to mount as much as possible. :) Just like to ride I guess.

More often than not, the high side. When parked the handle bars are turned into the low side.

I try to drop down onto it from above, like cowboys of days gone by. Someone told me that's how Steve McQueen did it.
