So how do you route the accesory power cable?
Greetings,
I have a Garmin GPS mounted to the handle bars between the risers. The challenge is running the power cable up to it from the power outlet. Anybody have a clever solution to this? I currently turn the bars full left, then run the cable from the power cord between the throttle cables and brake line to create slack. Then, start wrapping the power cord around the bars, down towards the risers. This is time consuming and not convenient. Given that the bike is washed every Saturday AM, or more often if dirty from rain/bugs. The power cord comes off during baths. Argh... It seems like there should be a better, quicker way of running the power cord. One which would be easier and less hassle. Thoughts appreciated... Ride safe,

I just bundle up all the extra length and velcro strap it together and stick it between the gps and the fairing. My Gps mount in on the center screw of my fairing windshield, and outlet is in the fairing (reckless).
Just figure out where you can store it and velcro strap it in place. My setup makes it easy to dismount it each night during a trip.

Hard wired to the OEM radio. There are two openings on the right and on the left side just below the radio. So the GPS will turn on and off with the ignition - even if the radio is on or not. There is a special plug on the backside from the radio with 5 cables
1 - igniton 2 - ground 3 - right speaker input 4 - leftspeaker input 5 - speaker ground So you could hear/get the navigation directly via the speakers in the fairing. Cu, Sven

Smokier, does your GPS have a removable cradle? By that I mean, a fixed mount that stays on the bike and allows you to remove the GPS itself.. My Garmin does. I just mounted the base where I wanted it on the handle bars, then secured the wiring to the existing wiring harnesses and ran the wires into the headlight bucket. From there I just tapped power off my running lights, leaving the extra wire curled up in the headlight. These devices don't use a lot of power, so l'm not concerned about he extra power demand on the running light circuit... Anyway, that's how I solved the problem.
Good luck with yours. Ride safe.

I put a power outlet inside my fairing, and have a Garmin power socket plugged permanently into it, all taped up & zip-tied so it won't come loose or chafe on anything.
The GPS end of the wire comes out one of those holes in the inner fairing under the radio that Sven mentioned, and when the GPS is not in use I just stuff the wire back into the hole so it stays dry. I drilled another tiny hole next to the larger one, so I could zip-tie the wire right there so it's easy to reach when I'm feeling around to pull it out. Works well so far.

Use this cable :
https://www.kawasaki.com/Accessories...0BGF/K10400046 or build your own. Here is the installation manual inkl. which cable color/pin is for which function. https://www.kawasaki.com/Content/Upl..._K10400046.pdf Works with any kind of gps (I use a Zumo 340LM) IF equipped with a female 3,5mm audio out socket. I am using a different Garmin than a ZUMO, so the connector is different. :) However, as you, Peg and others have mentioned, using the existing holes in the fairing and hard wiring the power adapter is likely my fix. Thanks guys! (Gotta love this forum!) |

good to know (per Kawasaki site) that it is compatible with the 2009 Vaquero!
