aftermarket shocks

I'm sure I've read about guys using them. I met a guy on the road in CO. who switched and loved them. Someone will chime in here soon with the 411.

The ones for the 1600 Classic are the same shocks, you just need to decide what length you want. The 412's are basically very similar to the stock shocks and the 440's are an upgrade with compression and rebound dampening.

I have seen people report that stock is 12.5" and 13". One says the 12.5 lowered the bike a bit, so that is the only part that I am not sure on. Bdog here has the 412's on his bike and they fit fine. Just note the following from the web site:

Quote:
"Kawasaki VN1600 Vulcan Classic requires # 5011-054 spacer kit to install shocks (does not apply to 812 Series). Available from Progressive Suspension or 14mm I.D. flat washers could be substituted."

The stock shock is 12.7 in.. I went with the 13in heavy duty 412 for a 99 valkrie, which is the same shock for the 1600 classic. Do yourself a favour also install the ft. fork springs..nice combo....Bdog

+1. I have the exact same combo. Just make sure to use the stock washer on the front springs. The ones supplied with the springs is too small.
