Who is going?
Those livestock trucks are worse in the rain. My bike smelled like one after getting doused. It depends on how it goes and how my ass feels. If I get to Valentine and it's not late, I may carry on. The other thing is, I was thinking of going north of Valentine and into SD that way. I've been on the RT 20 way by car and I was thinking of something different. Are there cons going through SD from Valentine? Gas is a big deal too. I don't recall a lot of stations, let alone premium fuel. It'll be fun I am sure.

That would be the RoseBud res. Your best bet there is to go straight north to Murdo, 77 miles. and don't stop to get there. then turn west on I-90. Gas in Murdo OK. From there you have Kadoka, Wall, New Underwood, and Rapid City if you need gas. But if you need gas at all of them you should invest in a mechanic cause its only 136 from Murdo to Rapid.

If that is the case, I should just take 90 from 29. I really didn't want to take interstates out there too much as they are boring.

The shortest route is to come west to get to I-90 (find the shortest distance to do so from your place). I-90 is the absolute shortest route from our area; but it will be extremely boring as it is all interstate and mostly straight all the way. Ride safe out there and take your time. We'll see you there. Greg

Who is going?
My wife and I are leaving Gowrie, IA early on Saturday, 13 June. We'll go to Grand Island, NE and visit family. Sunday we'll travel north to Valentine and stay the night there. On Monday, we'll arrive in Custer late in the afternoon. We'll be ready for the rally on Tuesday morning.
I'll probably ride most of the way, but my wife will be towing our cargo trailer just in case of storms and/or fatigue on my part. We are really looking forward to seeing everyone at the rally. After the rally, we head for Great Falls, MT, then Moose Jaw and Saskatoon, SK, then back to Iowa. See you all in Custer! BnG

Who is going?
There is road work on 20 and 80. Here is a link to the state website for road work: http://hb.511ia.org/main.jsf
but I also figure I will be leaving on Sunday morning, so it shouldn't be bad either way. Quote:

roadman, I am looking at the maps and it looks like to avoid construction you can go north to Dubuque and shoot west to I35 then up to Albert Lea, MN(I90) and then head west. No construction on I90 from Albert Lea to Sioux Falls and minimal construction in the Sioux Falls area then clear till Rapid City, according to the SD DOT site.

Roadman, if you're coming up I-74, get off on I- 280 at I-74/I-80/I-280 Jct. and go around QCA. ( I-80 from I-88 and the Mississippi Bridge is 1 lane westbound. I-280 reconnects with I-80 just west of Davenport.) Then run I- 80 to past Iowa City to I-380 to Waterloo and take 20 west. After that you have options of I-35 or I-29 North if you don't want HYW 20. If you're coming up to I-80 a different way, just go straight to get on I-280 from I-80 Westbound. Don't let the Jct. I-280 and I-74 mess you up in Moline. (airport) Stay on I-280 the whole way after you get on I-280.
