Dog Bone Risers

Ok, Am I the only cheap bugger on the forum?
I added 2" spacers under my risers and it helped a lot but I still want the bars back a bit. They're called Dog Bone risers and they were populars in the 60-70's.

I saw these bad boys on ebay for $21 shipped. I figure, what the heck! They'll come up 4" from stock and I can bring them back as much as I want. The only down side is the clamp will not be on the knurled section of the bars, so I may have to add a set screw or something.

Nope. I put a set of those on mine over a year ago. Got mine for free from a friend.

I added Sherm's risers on mine and I changed the bars to a Flanders Heritage handlebar. That's what it took for mine to fit me perfect.

It just boggles my mind when someone looks to the cheap (1) after having spent $12K +/- on the bike; and (2) does so on a part that could cost them severe physical injury or worse. Why oh why would you even consider this? Yes, it "may work", but why risk it? That's all I'm sayin'...

Bob, I put those $40 spacers on my 07 to see how I would like the bars moved up. I still think they need to come back a little. I don't think I would go with those dogbone things though. They look like they would have great adjustment but they may slip in a panic stop.
kawgirl , Do you have that same setup on your bike? No problems with them slipping in their mounts?

I have the same setup but have been looking at getting the PhatRisersII from Scootworks. I tried these to get a feel for getting the adjustment to leaning forward too much with the stock setup. I have had some trouble with slippage but not lately. Will get a set of Phat Risers after Christmas more than likely with my Santa money.

Man I wish I had $1000's to buy nice painted and chrome parts...but I don't. I feel extremely fortunate just to own a motorcycle. I guess I'm more old school than I thought I was, but I take pride in doing non-standard upgrades and repairs to my bike. I work for a national laboratory where I design and build...uh... shall we say mechanical stuff. so when I get the parts if they look like they're "Mickey Mouse" I won't use them. Safety First, but these parts are 3/4" thick aluminum and they should have no problem handling the stresses of the front end. It actually takes very little torque/stress to use the gyroscopic action of our wheels to lean our bikes.

sounds cuckoo to me...
but then I am definately not mechanically inclined...
looks like they shouldn't be more then $40 (or less)

Yep, I have PhattII 4" pull-backs and paid $154 + shipping, but the description of "Show Chrome" got me!

Hey Bob, I have a set of these PhattII's in brushed aluminum I'd sell for 1/2 price of new, but you would need to order new studs, which are available from Scootworks. The brushed are closer to a $100 new, if I remember correctly. So these would cost about $50. Check their web site, or the next time you're up this way drop in and take a lQQk if you're interested. I've also got three different types of handlebars laying around here you could try.....

At the end of the day, I dont' think those dog bones would look bad. The windshield would cover them anyway. I ran them on an ole Harley many days ago. They're not unsafe.

I had a set of those on a Kawasaki KZ1000 Police. They worked just fine with more adjustment possibilities than you will ever have with risers.

Ok I got the 4" dog bone risers installed and have ridden my Nomad and adjusted them several times for best feel.

It turns out that the 4" added lift (about like a 5" riser) is just right with NO pull-back added. The bars are adjusted parallel (straight) with the forks. If I bring them back...they're too close. So I guess I'm glad I didn't buy the Phatt Risers or another that brings the bars back. If I go with another riser I'll get a 5" lift straight.

p.s. I'm 5'11" and wear a 37" sleeve shirt.
