12v Outlet in Fairing

When I use the factory 12v outlet in the fairing on my Voyager, whatever I have plugged in will work itself out just far enough to loose contact. I have tried three different plugs and got the same results with all of them. It doesn't appear that there is a risk of them falling out as they fit in there fairly tight, but the center point moves back just far enough that I have to reach down every so often and push the plug back in to keep the item that I am using charging. Its kind of a pain to keep doing that every 15 or so miles.

Any ideas to keep it plugged in short of wiring in a new plug? It would have been nice if Kawi used a locking type outlet like I have seen in other similar applications.

My Victory does the same thing with my Garmin plug. I bought a USB adapter at walmart and use a usb cable for my garmin. This solved the problem. I think it was the tapered plug on the garmin 12 volt plug that caused this.

I've used several different USB adaptors and never had an issue with them, other than one falling apart and the tip shorted the socket and blew the fuse. Noticed tis when my driving/fog lights quit working, same fuse.

i wrapped 1 or 2 wraps of electric tape around end of plug, trimmed excess off of end so its really only about 1/4 inch wide or so, then inserted into socket tightly. problem solved.

Also Used electrical tape. I first cut a long strip in half down the length and made a few wraps around a plug. first try was to much so I pulled some off to get a good fit. I leave it in most of the time. It always works so far

That's nice but you still have the same problem of it being able to wiggle loose. My option replaces the whole adapter with 2 USB ports.

Be careful with that thing... I did the same, and removed the 12V OEM socket to put one of those dual USB outlets in it's place. On a long trip, it blew my accessory fuse a couple of times. I ended up having to use the few tools supplied to go in and check everything else out under the fairing under the shade of a tree in a hotel car park, and after eliminating every other possibility, I snipped the wires to the USB outlet and all was well.

The OEM outlet is back in place... I never use it, but it fills the hole.

Convert to or add a Powerlet outlet. Totally different design made to specifically address this issue. It is not a direct swap for the existing Voyager / Vaquero outlet hole however. If you are handy at fabricating stuff, it isn't a big deal. Or they have a variety of mount options, including one that is a handlebar mount that also provides a 1" ball as well.

I fixed this cheap and easy on my Voyager.

I used stick on Velcro (the soft side only). I cut 2 pieces about 1/4 inch square and placed them on the inside lip of the socket. One on the bottom and one on the top. there is no interference with the contacts and everything fits nice and snug.

I found out the hard way after installing USB outlets in one of the glove boxes, that my Garmin cannot be plugged into a usb outlet. If it is it goes into its PC pairing mode.
