AZ speed cameras

Went for a little ride yesterday, to Globe which is about 85 miles east of my house. I had to ride through Superior, a small town that straddles US-60. Two speed cameras in that little town. Globe has several speed cameras as well. Found this article in this morning's AZ Republic. Thought some of you might find it interesting.

The minimum fine is $232 for 11-15 miles per hour over the speed limit,

Does this mean the camera will not take a pic of vehicles going 10 or less miles over the limit? Or there is no fine for going less than 10 miles over the limit?

CJ, Thanks for sharing. It's nice to know where the real ones are.

TC, If you're doing 5-6 MPH over the limit around here, you'll be the slowest thing on the road. I regularly do 9-10 MPH over and still get passed a lot (even in the presence of LEO's).

Generally, they give you 10 MPH over the limit with the cameras. Of course, a cop can stop you for one mile over if he is so inclined.

That fine you quoted is probably only in El Mirage or wherever the specific camera was in the story. Each municipality sets its own fine schedule. I'd think $232 is a bargain in some places it's much more.

I'm glad I don't have to go through AZ on my way to the National.

Two years ago I was riding on Highway 191 in the middle of the desert around 4:30 am (covering some miles that day!) and had their strobe light go off and take a picture of me. That super bright, strobe light blinded me and cause a MUCH larger danger than me traveling through the desert in the middle of the night at a faster than posted pace.

I didn't get a ticket because I was picking up a new bike and didn't have plates.

Don't ride like a jackass and you'll have no problems.

We should have an Autobahn road system rather than cameras.
