Living in the desert - Las Vegas

I have a new to me 2005 Vulcan Nomad 1600.

This will be the first summer with the bike and seeing what you other desert dwellers run.

What coolant works best out here?

Do you run 10W 40 or switched to the 20W 50?

Going to flush the coolant this weekend and want to ise whats best for the heat and keeping the engine cooler. I've seen the Ice, Wet Water, etc. What is your experience?

Oil change will be due in about 500 miles, last one i did 10W 40. Now that the heat is coming, considering the 20W 50 at least for summer. What are your experiences?

Thanks

Engine Ice has worked good for me here in the midwesr. Temps in the upper 90s.

Use Valvoline mc 20-50 in the summer along with Purolator One Filter.
Buy 6 at a time online, they are off color so I spray paint them with flat black.

Use Prestone 50/50 (prediluted) purge air out of system once filled.

How many miles are on your new bike?

I live in the Phoenix area. I used to ride a 2007 Nomad. I used Kawasaki coolant (AlumiCool ?) and ran 20W-50 oil from April-October. Never had a heat-related issue on the Nomad. I also used premium gas to alleviate pinging in the summer.

It has 34000 now that i put on about 2500 since mid Feb.

Ordered the 20w-50 for the next change.

Still up in the air oon coolant choices.

And, hmmmmmm, found a bit of oil on the right rear spark plug when I changed those last night. Not a lpt by any means, but enough to raise awareness

Have the cam chain tensioner's had the extension fitted? Search the forum for that phrase if you don't know the issue.
