I would fly into Knoxville, Tennesse and ride into the Smoky Mountains. A visit to Gatlinburg, TN is always something to see. Lots of bikes go there. Not too far away is Helen, Georgia and the entire town is set like a German town would be. Good riding in both areas. The Blue Ridge Parkway that runs in Tennessee and Virginia is a nice ride. Like the others have mentioned it just all depends on what part of the country you want to visit. Beautiful sites to see in every state.

You could come to Illinois and see some corn. And then there are the soy beans. And then some more corn. Southern Illinois has some nice riding in the Shawnee National Forest area and some corn.

I guess I'm the only east coaster, in the Baltimore/DC area:

If you have any interest in history, like perhaps where a bunch of insolent rebels threw off the chains of oppression ;), we have some sites from the late 1700s. Valley Forge is about 2 hours away.

The Gettysburg environs and PA have some nice rides. The Amish have an interesting culture.

You could ride west to Skyline drive, and south along the Blue Ridge parkway to the Smokey Mtns, spend some time around Tail of the Dragon.

You could head down along the ocean (not nearly as spectacular as the Pacific side, but the water's a lot warmer).

Of course, you'll be close to NY City. Nothing like taking a bike into Manhattan on a Friday afternoon. The cabbies and locals are always pleasant. You'll easily find guys willing to watch your bike while you walk around the city. Just leave the keys with them so they can move the bike in case, uh -- a fire truck needs to pull in -- yea a fire truck. You wouldn't want a building to burn down because you didn't trust somebody, would you?

(Steer clear of the cities if you want to maximize riding)

btw, all these guys pushing you to ride out west? Really! Once you've seen one breathtaking, snow-capped mountain, billowing clouds, and a crystal blue sky while riding a winding 2 hour stretch without having your feet touch down because of a stop sign or stop light, you've seen 'em all.

I told Phot in an email that I'd post a map for him.

Here's a map of how to get some cool parts of Colorado, and the National Parks in Utah, and end up in Las Vegas.

Click on satellite view and zoom in to get a better look at the terrain and twisties.

Anyone have other suggestions between Denver and Las Vegas?
