In Charlotte the strip bars don't give out ones any more.

They use Twos thinking the girls will get more in tips.

Or so I've been told.

They run your ass out if you put a two in their garter and ask for a one back.

That's what they say. I don't know. I don't go in the places myself.

On a trip last summer twice I witnessed the sad lack of math skills in US gas stations.
Both places made me pay first when using cash, so first place I give the guy two $10's cause i not sure what i can get in. He has a paper weight for each pump, puts my money under it. I end up pumping $9 in the bike, come back in the store and I tell him $9 he looks at his display, picks up the two tens and instead of giving me one back and a buck out of the till, he puts both in the till, walks over to a calculator on the far end of the counter and proceeds to figure out what change to give me.
Next one I went in first only had a fifty, told him that is all I had but would only pump about $12-15, got change for that?, yes sir. I forget exactly the amount but it was a round # not odd change and close to what i had said it would take, He gave me $11:00 and a handle full of change, what?? He tried 3 times and had no clue, I told him what he owed me and another customer told him the same amount finally he got it right. Not saying Canadian kids behind cashes are any brighter, but at least here the don't ask for cash up front and confuse the hell out of them. Sad education system.

Speaking of cash..........

My wife got a $5 bill in her change at a Sobeys grocery store.
Later she went to Tim Hortons store for a coffee. They told her the $5 was fake.

They had the machine thingy that tests them.

She went back to Sobeys who said the bill was not fake but never tested it, so she spent it there !

Sad to admit, but we have a significant bunch in the population that are more than willing to drive away without paying for gas.

There are those that will try here as well, but it is quite simple. Most stations here have video surveillance at each pump that picks up the plate and the action. Don't pay, the police are called and they deal with it without the need of a deterrent that inconveniences honest folk.

At the 2 gas stations closest to home they want you to pay before you pump.
You have to guesstimate how much you will need and pay accordingly.
I stopped going there for that reason.

If you don't trust me I will take my business elsewhere.

I used to buy $5000 to $6000 in gas a year there.
I wonder how many other people stopped going there for the same reason.

I doubt they were losing (by people not paying) anywhere near what it is costing them in lost sales.

We have the odd one that do that at night or limit pumps they can 't see as well to pre pay as well, but that is understandable and rare to run into one.
I agree with you, don't trust me then keep your gas.
