Pad for stock Nomad seat.

Hello all.
I just got my new issue of Rider and they have a guide for seat pads. Lots of different ones to be sure.
I want to keep the stock seats but which pads do the rest of us use. I would like to try something better.
So which ones do you like and which ones do you NOT like and why?
BTW, I am 6'2" and weigh 225.
Thanks.

Pad for stock Nomad seat.

I have a sheepskin gelpad on Lucille. It helps but isnt perfect. I am considering an upgrade but don't really want to shell out for a Daylong seat. Next step will probably be to have my seat modified and put the gelpad inside and re-covered. If it isnt any better than what I have and we dont end up locked out of the plant in February then I'll buy a new seat so I can have time to break it in before Custer in June.

I saw that in my issue of Rider as well. If this were a few weeks ago, I'd probably go with a pad, but at this point I'm just about to order a Mustang Seat. Several weeks ago I rode my bike up to East Texas and back in the same day, around 400+ miles, and my rear was killing me when I got home. At this point, a pad just won't do!

Pad for stock Nomad seat.

The best pad that I have found is a Mustang with drivers backrest. I also am 6'2" but 245 lbs. When it's cool I just use the seat, but when it heats up, I use the wooden beaded seat covers. Those things are remarkably comfortable and cool.

+1 for the Mustang seat w/rider backrest and beaded cushion for hot weather.

Pad for stock Nomad seat.

Had a mustang on my Yamaha. Didn't take long to get one for the Kaw. Wishing for a backrest. Will have those beads before summer. No need for them at the moment.
LW- wanna test ride the mustang?

I use an Airhawk "medium cruiser" seat cushion on the driver and passenger seats along with a Grasshopper driver back rest. Life is good.

I have a sheepskin gel pad but don't use it. I found that it put me too high in the seat and I actually took it off and went with my reworked stock seat for the ride to WV this past summer. I am going to get some beads for my seat, getting a car seat beads and rework them for the bike. Oh, forgot, 6' 235 here.

I use a seat cushion from Walmart, its a rubber waffle looking pad inside of a non slip cover, $20.00 in the automotive section. Some guys have bought two and stuffed them both in the same cover for extra padding.

Go with memory foam if you have it reworked. That is what I did and it is very good. Cost $125 here locally for both driver and pillon.

Pad for stock Nomad seat.

I ALSO have the Wal Mart Waffle pad,, It was a BUTT saver, and for 20$ a GREAT addon,, I went from Maine to Va. on the stock seat.. My BUTT was screaming in Pa, and we spent the night there,,,In Va we found the Wal mart Pad,,,,
I also redid the Stock seat.. Cut the wedge off the back so its more straight up like the Mustang,, added a gel Pad and Foam over the Gel Pad,,,a BIG HELP..I can now slide alittle farther back,,,,Not much difference in seat height,, Im 6ft 3 225,,Stock windshield,,and will be upgrading the Shield to a Taller one so to me seat height is not a issue......I wasnr crazy for the Mustang seat on my Honda Sabre,,and HATED the CORBIN,Loved the Back rest on both,,,I have the F&S adjustable back rest on my Nomad,,, A BACKREST is a MUST HAVE for long rides IMO........

Once caveat regarding gel seat pads - they are very dense and hold heat like a cast iron skillet. They can be very uncomfortable in warm weather.

Pad for stock Nomad seat.

I'm 6'1" 307. I've had my stock seat reworked with memory type foam, cut to resemble those on the 1600 Classic, or the Mustangs. I use a BAKUP brand backrest, much like those made by grasshopper(I do recommend those too), which is a MUST have. Consider the cost, and hassle with pads, go with recut or aftermarket seat. BTW- I also do have the Pro Pad brand pads for both front and rear seats, but only use the passenger pad for my wife.
