Rider down in Utah

I saw this online in the Salt Lake paper. This is in Utah Motorcyclist's area.

Motorcyclist critically injured in Lindon crash

The Salt Lake Tribune
Updated: 03/02/2010 06:45:57 AM MST

A 30-year-old motorcyclist was in critical condition Tuesday after being struck by an SUV in Lindon overnight.

The accident occurred about midnight near 700 North and State Street in the Utah County town when the 19-year-old woman driving the SUV made a left turn into the man on the motorcycle, KUTV News reported.

Police say the woman told them she did not see the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, who sustained head injuries, was flown by helicopter to Utah Valley Medical Center.

No citations were issued, but the accident remained under investigation, KUTV reported.

Further details of the accident, or the identities of the man and woman, were not immediately released.

I was wondering that myself. Probably too busy text-messaging her boyfriend to be watching the road.

It's never going to end. They just get in the car and think it is on auto pilot while they text, talk on the phone, paint their nails, day dream etc.

I have had a few turn left in front of me. Luckily I wasn't riding at a high rate of speed at the time and was watching for just such a thing.

I know this guy. He is a member of the local group that I run off of facebook. Last I heard he was in a coma and not doing too well.

Some reports say it was 12:10 am other say 12:10 pm. I'm not too sure which is correct.

It's a shame. Earlier this month, Utah S.B. 106 was trying to make all aftermarket pipes illegal. I fought the bill pretty hard sending out emails to every state senator and also asked all 400+ member of the local fb group to do the same. With these type accidents happening all too often, it makes me wonder why anyone would want to make motorcycles silent and therefor even more difficult to notice.

I was wondering if you knew him, since he is from your neck of the woods. I hope he makes it.

I just hear that the guy is still in a coma, but the doctors have been operating on all the broken bones with expectations that he will wake up soon.

Just wondering what that means Dan?
The guy is in a coma. He can't tell them not to operate.
If you were in a coma you couldnt just decide to die.

With a living will, you can have your representative make decisions about your medical care. That way, if you are in a coma, decisions can still be made on your behalf.

A coma could last days, or years, or decades like that case in Florida. I'm not waiting around to find out which my coma would be.

Hopefully my injuries would be enough that absent medical care other than pain management, I would die rather quickly.
