Vaquero ABS 21” vs 19” wheel
Thinking of a new front wheel for the Vaquero. Love the bike but not the big front tire. Found a rim I like through Rotation wheels and can get it in 21” or 19”. I was set on a 21” and don’t Mind moving the fender and slipping the forks but don’t wanna mess up the abs. Is there a fix out there for the abs with a 21”. ? Anyone else running a custom 19” wheel?

The ABS system may have a reaction to the change in overall tire diameter. A larger diameter tire will have a lower rotational speed than the original tire diameter. No big deal if the tire speed change is within a possible limit built into the ABS control algorithm. ABS works on the principle of checking/comparing the wheel speed rotation when the brake is applied on the controlled wheel. If there is a tire size reference loaded into the algorithm and you install a larger diameter tire it may cause an ABS fault code.

What Andy said & there IS a thread here somewhere...

As I recall, he was going to have a shop fab him a new ABS disc, through which the sensor reads to judge rotational speed. I will look for thread, maybe another will FIND it... :) Ride safe, Smokier

I belong to a few other groups. The guy that was trying to correct his problem, was never able to have it corrected and gave up.
The consensus seems to be that a 19” wheel is fine, but that’s it. If you want a 21” wheel, you have to disable the ABS. With a 19” wheel, you can get a tire that has the same overall height as the stock tire, then the wheel is spinning at the same speed and there is no issue with the ABS. Some either modified the stock tone ring or made a new one for their new rim.
