Where is it coming from? Right or left side, high or low, front or back?

It could be a lot of different things.

Try to pinpoint it if you can. It could be one of a few things.
What kind of noise is it? a clunk, rattle, squeek, knock, etc.
Check that its not your bevel gear at the front of the driveshaft.
Riding the bike with a bad bearing in there chews things up in a real hurry.

Hey Ring,

How do you check the bevel gear at the front of the driveshaft?

Without taking the rear wheel and swingarm off the bike it may be difficult to say for certain.
Id jack the rear wheel up and rotate it with the motor running and listen for any grumbling bearing noises. You could also rotate it by hand and see if there is a lot of loose play in the final drive, driveshaft train. There should be just a little free play there.
Although the best way is to take it apart and check each part seperataly.
Make sure the bike is well secured when up on the jack and running if you decide to do this, and don't raise the bike any more than you need to clear the ground.
You may also be able to hear other sounds better doing this since you won't have the wind and road noise to deal with.

Well the sound is like a bearing , i had a mechanic at the local dealer check it and he told me that the nomads have that sound after they get alot of miles on them , so i went to a friend of mine thats a bike mechanic and he took the driveshaft out and checked all the bearings and replaced the wheel bearing and the sound was still there so we put it on the lift and ran it , the sound was coming out the back of the motor and the more thottle you give it the louder the sound got and he call some factor rep and was told that the bike would be fine , but all i can figure is there has to be something making that noise and it bugs me that i can't findit.

Welcome.

That is quite a factory rep; that can diagnose the problem with out even seeing the bike. ;) Seriously I would have a look at the bevel gear. This is not from a normal operational condition.

From what you described Id be looking a lot closer at the bevel gear, try to put a stethoscope on it if your not real sure thats the problem area. Hopefully you have warranty, if not don't run the bike, as youll be putting metal bits into the motor.

If it is the front bevel gear (fbg) then you do NOT want to ride it.

A buddy of mine in TX is having his engine rebuilt as we speak because the fbg let go.

It filled the oiling system with metal bits and completely destroyed his heads.

If you don't have a steth, put a paint roller handle to the case and your ear ...

I have a fbg on the bench with a cracked case. All of the internals are good. The dealer tried to charge Randy $1700.00 for a complete new one.

Good Luck

I'ld want that factory reps diagnostic in ink .

Another way similar to Ring's way but maybe harder to do, is mark and remove the shifters, remove the foot board, remove the dry left side engine case cover.

Use a lift. Make sure the tranny is in neutral. Have a helper turn the wheel, with you or a tech listening to the bevel ear case area with either a techs stethescope or a long 3/8" or 1/2" ratchet extention.

If you hear crunching and grinding the bevel gear bearing is history. If you see colors made by heat on the bevel gear case the bearing is history.

Year make and model please, and how many miles? When was the swing arm serviced last?

Its a 2001 ,1500g with about 23,000 miles on it . The swingarm was looked at by a buddy of mine thats been a bike mechanic for most of his life and owns his own shop , he looked at all the bearing in the swingarm and driveshaft, He told me he couldn't find anything lose or worn , so he changed the bearing in the wheel and this fall iam ging to have him go though the hole motor and trans for me. I was just wondering if it could be from my trans ? I might have him look at that this week sometime . Iam just lost , whatever it is it don't hender the running or the power it just bugs me.

Stump does the noise go away if you pull the clutch in? Try it and get back to us. Just get the noise to where you don't like it most, and clutch IN to coast. See if the noise changes at all.

Eagle a couple ways. One is to run the engine in gear on a lift and with either a stethescope listen in the general area, or with the engine off and cold peel back the rubber boot and try to determine if you can move the bevel gear spline with the drive shaft spline coupled together up/down/ or side to side. The next steps would be deeper.

Remove the shifter. lf side Fl boards, and the engine case which is dry, then look and listen again. You would be looking for blued metals the blue from heat, and on the real engine case and bevel gear housing.
