Sorry, I read it "balancing" wire the first time (I am blind in my left eye)...I know what bailing wire is, just don't get the relevance...I remember betamax if that helps

So my question is: Why in the world would you be willing to cut up a piece of your bike just to fit a Car tire under it? I just could never understand that way of thinking.

A 1/4 inch, wonder what the clerence is at high speed.
Centrifical force will cause a tire's diameter to grow as it forces the tread away from the axis of rotation.

A 1/4" is plenty of room. Some guys have no more than a credit cards thickness for sidewall clearance. Mine has about a healthy 1/8" clearance on the sidewalls.

It is a cheap plastic cover that takes two bolts, I may just purchase a new one, and cut it up, or just leave it off...If I see it and want it, I buy it or make it then own it...Just because kawasaki doesn't sell, warranty, or condone something, doesn't mean it's crazy

most of the flex even in a car tire is under load, where the tire contacts the road, have you never seen choppers, with almost no clearance, running 300 rear tires?

There you go, 1/4" is tons of clearance.

The clearance between my tire and drive shaft housing (parked ) will release a single credit card, while 2 cards stay put.

that is righteous!

One thing I missed about my honda...the shaft was easy to work with...and honestly, I believe it is faster from light to light, but everyone tells me I am wrong, because they are all behind me now that I got the kawi ;-)

I think we are talking about two different things. Flex on the bottom of the side wall has nothing to do with the diameter of the tire growing at high speed. Actually when the diameter grows the width of the tire grows narrower though. Be sure to post some pics when you get it done.

I doubt those tires will grow any measurable amount Norm, they're nothing like a dragster slick at all.

pretty different compared to my 165 car tire on the honda sabre 1100
Tons of grip, feels a little different when ridden hard...
put the ol lady on the bike, went on a double date...
nothing rubbed (well...one of the little push pin things holding the brake line to the swing arm did, but that was remedied by just bending the bracket a few degrees

much more stable, and tracks much straighter...I have a little more ground clearance (a lot compared to the 180/50 that was on there

It does feel a little spongey, but not unstable or dangerous..

I have three card thickness between the shaft cover and my 205 60 16. About 3mm. It has never rubbed in about 20,000. I think you're going to be ok even considering a slight if any diameter increase. But do check to be sure. like I did!
