Greetings from New Jersey - Seeking Your Input

Thank you all, and I appreciate your welcome and opinions.

I'm honestly leaning toward the cheaper bike- especially if i could get it down to $4500.
Gotta see how OCD i become, to be willing to take a long trip for the 2007 nomad- it's likely to take up to 5 hours to get there!

Welcome from North St. Paul, MN
Go for the '07 with the extended warranty. A five hour drive will be a one time thing, riding the '07 will be often with the peace of mind of an extended warranty on a used bike. Whatever you choose I am sure that you will like your new to you Nomad.

Welcome from Kansas, all three sound like good bikes, I probably would go with the '07 also because of the extras and the extended warranty.

Welcome from Edmonton, Alberta. 2 hours is nothing for us northerners, but that being said anyone of your choices will put a smile on your face.

Welcome from Georgia.

I too would vote for the 2007 with the extended warranty. Probably won't need it but if you do you will be glad you have it.

Greetings from New Jersey - Seeking Your Input

Welcome aboard officially Pastor! Hope the PM's earlier helped a little. Glad to see you are getting close on your Nomad purchase. All three bikes are good choices and could be good deals. I don't want to mis-speak, but I believe the first year for the larger tank was 2002, with the 01 being 4.2 gallon. Also believe the 2001 was carbed rather than FI. Someone else will confirm these facts. That said if price is a key factor and you can live with the few blemsishes and maitenance needs the 2001 is a great bike.
The 2005 is a good deal, with low miles, but is mostly stock. If you plan to add many of the aftermarket items the other bikes have, you could have $1-$1.5K add up quickly. The 2007 would be my pick if I liked te tourpack and mufflers. If not the 2005 is a nice bike and blank canvas for you to make your own. All in all they are all great choices. Decide if price, color, accessories, distance, etc... is most importnat to you and then just go get it.

Welcome from Burlington, ON Canada, the 07 with warranty is worth checking out, perhaps we have another member nearby that could take a look at the bike for you.

I am very close to making a purchase on a Nomad - so i seek your wisdom, counsel, and opinions on what you think would be the better bike for price/year/mileage.

Here are my options (as of now).

2007 black, 18k miles- tourpack, valkerie slip ons, warranty till jan 2012, new avon cobra tires synth oil- $7000 Very good cond.
(pretty far away- 2+ hrs away, more for public transport)

2005 black/silver- 10k miles- kury grips, stock. $7000 Good cond.

2001 burgandy/silver FI model- 14k miles- cobra slashcuts, newer tires & battery, amsoil synth oil used- $4700 Good cond (horn doesn't work, some mild pitting & brake, coolant fluids need change). Also the owner claims this has the 5 gallon tank too. Is that possible???

Whatdya think? Any, all opinions would be appreciated.
I will keep you posted, and start posting upon ownership. Thanks!!

PS- Yes, I am a United Methodist pastor.

WELCOME Pastor form another Methodist ! Since 1953
When it comes time to sell the bikes PM me.. I know several people On the New England Riders site that LOVE the V strom
My 2 cents on the Nomads
2007 w/ Wattanty BEST choice, IMO worth the ride. BEST bang for the buck, The Tour Pak would cost you at least 500/750$ US
The others sound good as well!
If $$$ are a issue, and as stated minor blems are fine,, FURST thing I would do with the older one is OIL, Fluids and a GOOD safty check by a GOOD wrench! CHECK to "TIRES" If they are OLD there could be dry rot... AND KEEP coming back here
Good luck,Rich

Greetings from New Jersey - Seeking Your Input

Thanks again (i'm not sure if you all will check back here after you've posted) - but THANK YOU!

With your wisdom & guidance, I've decided to go with the 2007. The owner actually did a very generous and kind deed and went the extra mile and just recently changed the following: plugs, oil, shaft oil, and other adjustments at his expense ($267)! I was blown away... of course he didn't do it for me per se, but still the act was very, well... Christian!

So i will go this Thursday - train from NJ to NYC - to Long Island, (about 4 hrs) and ride her home! I will keep you all posted with pictures and follow up.

I haven't even sold my bikes yet... i always tend to do things backwards, but i'm pretty confident they will sell. My 2008 M50 has 5800 miles - i'm hoping to get $6000. My Vstrom 650 is a 2004, and it's in very good cond but high miles- 79k, i'm hoping to get $3200 as i've put givi hard bags, new windshield, wolo horn, headlight grill, K&N filter on it.

Blessings & peace.
