led turn signals

Somewhere I seem to remember a thread discussing replacing turn signal lights with LEDs. I remember that something (resister?) needed to be added to the circuit because the new LED lights don't offer enough resistance to activate the turn signal flasher???

Does anyone remember anything about this?

Wolfman can find you the link, I bet. It is called an equalizer by some. I have seen some with diodes and resistors too.

You could just add a solid state flasher (the clear alternatives website has detailed instructions!). That way, you won't lose the current-saving attributes of the LED turn signals. You will lose the automatic canceling feature though...

If you go to the Cruisercustomizing.com web site, and look up 'run turn controller' it will explain that you need a $6.00 diode kit to keep voltage from feeding back and all lights flashing when going from incandesant to led's. Hopefully that will give you a bit more insight on the voltyage thing too. I have led's and i had to do that. Just pointing you in a direction that I hope might help you a bit.

If you're only replacing the incandescent bulbs with led bulbs you will only need a "load equalizer". The reason for this is because the leds draw so little current that the flasher will not flash the lights. The amount of current flow is what determines the flashing rate. (You may have noticed that sometimes when one of the turn signal lights is burned out, the remaining light flashes more slowly.)
