Roadside Assistance

Ok, my auto insurance doesn't cover roadside for the motorcycle. I am thinking of getting either ROK or AMA.

Does anyone have one of these? What do you think of the coverage if you have used them?

I have Markel Insurance with some road side assistance. If it's broke in the middle of no where I guess every little bit helps.

I signed up for the AMA membership, received my member packet in the mail, and had to use it 2 days later when the fuel pump in my car went out.

I think the AMA plan is the way to go, since it not only covers your bike, but any vehicle you are in - even if it isn't yours. The AAA plan covers your car, but not your motorcycle without an upgrade to your coverage.

Plus, the AMA represents motorcyclists in Washington, etc.

CJ,

I had AAA for years just for the travel planning (work). I agree that they aren't the way to go for motorcycle towing. Amercian Family will not do roadside for the motorcycle but I do have it for the cars ($5/yr) so that isn't really much of a concern.

So how would you rate your experience with them on your car?

It was great. I called them after pushing my car out of the middle of the intersection it died in. The tow truck was there within 30 minutes and they towed it to the Pontiac dealer for me. Since my membership was so new, they had a hard time locating some of my information, but that's been straightened out. They had issued me a membership card without all the necessary info on it. They've since sent me the correct card.

I have AAA premium and they are suppose to have my bike covered since my bike is insured through them.

No problem with AAA; and it does cover my bike, cars, and any other vehicle I may be riding in or on as a passenger -- even if not mine.

I'm also a premium AAA member. Decided to upgrade 2 years ago when my baby Vulcan died. Fortunately, I have not needed roadside assistance for my Nomad, but I've used it several times to tow cars. With basic AAA coverage, you get only 4-ish miles to tow without an additional charge. With premium, I can tow up to 100 miles (I think) without additional charge. No complaints here.

I really get tired of saying this but I'm up on the soap box again.
If you own a gun you should be an NRA member.
If you ride a motorcycle you should be an AMA member.
If you are an AMA member you can get free roadside assistance if you sign up for two years and opt for an automatic renewal the second year.

Went ahead and signed up with the AMA. I used to have AAA but in these parts they are more concerned with the front range rather than us out here. Had them in Nebraska for years and loved it but as soon as we moved to Colorado and talked with the closest office (90 miles away) they really turned me off with the attitude in that office.

Went with Allstate. Didn't know about the AMA deal. Like the unlimited mileage clause and covers all rec vehicles and my cars as well.
