Narrower risers?

I bought a pair of 11" dresser apes, they are 1.25" and taper down at controls and clamp area...unfortunately they taper down at 5" for the clamps and my stock risers are 5.5". Does anyone know of a stock height set of risers that are the 1/4" narrower on each side that I need? Thank you, these are the stock risers on the 1700 Nomad.

What brand did you go with? The 11" Santee Dresser Apes work perfectly with OEM risers

I ran into the same prob when I put Chubby Wild 1 14" apes on my 011 Nomad. For some reason Kaw saw fit to widen the risers on the 1700's. I had no prob putting the same bars on my 05 1600. I never could find any offset risers that would work so I bought a set of 1 1/4" risers & made a sleeve out of 1 1/4 tubing to convert the stepped down 1" mounting section up to 1 1/4". Problem solved & worked like a champ. Afterwards I found this 1 1/4 sleeve. http://shop.wild1inc.com/RISER-ADAPTERS_c13.htm

Hope this helps!

They are not santee dressers but look exactly like them and have the same measurements...I will look into a sleeve because I love the look of these bars!

Perhaps they can be machined down a bit?

I was thinking that too...not sure of the thickness at that point so I dont want them weak at a crucial point. Exploring all options I guess.......

Tell me if you think this is doable...machining out 1/4" from the outside end of each riser, and top and bottom about 1/6" so that way the it will still have about 85-90% clamped to the bars and have the space for the expansion of the bars.

Honestly, I'd just sell the bars you purchased on a HD forum or on ebay and pick up the Santee bars. The hassle wouldn't be worth it to me.

The santee bars won't fit on mine, they have a 5" wide tapered section according to the specs I can find...that is EXACTLY the same as what I have now.

Might wanna be careful machining & see if you can find out how they are made 1st. Wild 1 bars are a full length 1" bar inside a 1 1/4" bar & then bent. So the 1" bar is full length. Some other bars are just 1" pieces welded in at the risers & grips. If this is the case you might grind away the welds.

Oops! I miss read your post & thought you were talking about machining the bars. Machining the risers would prolly work fine. Might need to re-chrome them bad boys.....
