I hear exactly what you are saying, but may I suggest (if you have not already) test riding a Victory. I have the CCT and, it is not a light bike. But, I still have my Nomad and I can tell you without fear of being dramatic they ride like two completely different bikes. Pushing the Victory in and out of the garage, you know it's heavy. But, riding it, you would swear it's only about five hundred pounds or so. Best handling big bike I've been on. Ride one, if you haven't. You really will be suprised. Good luck with the hunt.

After I sold my Nomad, I test rode an Ultra, Voyager and Vision. All heavier than the Nomad, all had more features too. The dealer that had the Vision also sold BMWs. I thought I wanted to test ride a K1200LT, but they discontinued it and all the dealer had were R bikes. The owner tossed me the keys and said have fun and the rest is history. Sure, I tried a Victory, but I didn't buy one. Losing 250lbs of bike and it would be more with the ones I test rode, was transformative. It does everything better for me. If you ride two up AND are big or the combination is, there are better choices, but if you ride mostly one up, the RT works fine. It goes better, stops way better and handles better. I guess there is a down side in that it requires a bit more maintenance, at least with mine. The new water cooled ones got rid of a couple maintenance items and lengthened the valve adjustment interval, but my guess is you'd be going for something used. whatever you get, if you get a bike between 500-600lbs, it'll be a lot lighter than the nomad or a victory. Or a HD for that matter.

I have several bikes and one is a Kawasaki vulcan classic 800. This bike weight is a little over 500 lbs. Might be something to fit what you are looking for. When I get off my Nomad and get on the classic it feels like a toy. Some days my knee gives me trouble so thats when i use it.

I had a 800 Classic. With fluids and fuel it's about 575. It is a lighter bike, but it's deficient in so many ways. The brakes suck, not cruise control, terrible stock seat, carbureted, and just not refined. You might as well get a sportster. The Engine is bulletproof though and will last 100K plus miles. It's chain drive too...THere are better choices.

Wow Tom, knew you had been thinking about this, but it is still a surprise......
I remember Dick (DK) went thru this same thing........... the Nomad was just too heavy for him, and I told him about the Yamaha Stratoliner. It is a large comfortable bike (1900cc and weighs as much as the Nomad) but feels and behaves like it was a 500 lb bike. He's been riding it for a few years now, and he loves it.
Just something else to consider.

When I sold my Voyager and bought an FJR 1300 it felt like a bicycle. Too bad I could not get comfortable on the FJR and I only did 3,000 kms on it before it was sold.

Here's the BMW that he should get. It's underrated and a do all bike. Lots of examples like this can be found for reasonable prices. They are easy to work on and relatively light. My bike is 570 with a full tank. These are in the low 500s, may be 520. There's a whole forum dedicated to them.

I think the FJR is around 640lbs. Definitely lighter than the Nomad or Voyager. My Nomad reg said 818. I think the Voyagers are up around 890.

Your FJR probably needed a different seat, bar risers and peg lowering kit. The C14 is the same way. A little to sporty for those with bad backs and/or tall. Even so, I put risers and peg lowering kit on my bike and it's not as cramped as the C14 or FJR. It needs a different seat though. I am better off than my Nomad was with a mustang seat, but I'd really like to have a seat where I didn't have to think my ass hurts at some point in a ride.

No. It's the R1200R. I have the RT. The R is a roadster where as my bike is a Reise-Tourer, or travel tourer. I have a frame mounted fairing with audio capability, electrically adjustable screen and suspension and a 7.1 gallon gas tank versus 5.8.
