AIR CLEANER COVER ETCHING

Has anyone ever thought of etching something on the chrome air cleaner covers of the 2005 and up? If you notice the 1500 has that etched on the cover. The 1600 has nothing. I inquired at a trophy business once and they said if the media ( cover) wasn't flat it could not be done. Any suggestions?

Good thought, I have not thought of Vin. Would take a special engraver I think due to the curves of the cleaner. let me know if you find anybody.

The 1500 on the air cleaner is actually a sticker or at least it was on mine.

Funny you all say this. I have been working on a new air cover for my wifes 900LT. Still trying to figure out how to get the perfect shape to fit her bike as a added piece to her stock cover. We will see....

I'd like to renew this subject ,since there are so many newer folks now. I think the aircleaner cover needs something engraved on it. I think the Harleys covers look nice OR maybe someone could advise on painting something on chrome??? what do you all think?

I bet if you covered the air cleaner with tape and cut out a design you could lightly sand blast the bright shine off. Years ago we etched glass by that method and once we used acid paste to take the shine off glass. I still have some of that glass acid. If my nuts descend I'll try it.

That seems like it would work...

Here's another thought for those that still have stock air filters

Air Filter graphic for Vulcan 1500 Nomad will probably work with 1600

Find an engraver that has a lazier engraver. A friend of mine is in the business. I've seen him use it to do engravings on beer mugs, and such. It will even engrave on wood. I'll give him a call and see what he says about chrome. Shoot it might reflect and tear a hole in the ozone layer, then Al Gore will be on our butt.
Any hoo, he has some really cool material to engrave on. Plastic that's coated on one side so he can engrave from the colored side. The engraving is clear and then can be painted what ever color you like. The best part about this is the design is smooth on the front side and doesn't hold dirt. I'll let you all know what I find out.
