Drive Shaft

Well I noticed a little rumble when going over bumps on the highway and could feel a little hesitation at slow cruising speed. It was the drive shaft about to come out. I decided I needed to check it so I tore it apart last night and its a wonder it would drive as well as it did. The u joint is badly worn out and rubbed a flat spot on the side of the drive shaft. There are several on Ebay but most are for a 1999. Mine is a 2000 Nomad 1500G2. Is a drive shaft for a 1999 the same thing? One of the compatibility list says it won't fit. I saw another printed list that said they are the same from the 80s up to the 1600s. I figured if I can get a good shaft and install a new u joint it will run another 130,000 miles (I replaced it at about 50,000)
Thanks,
Zoom45

Is there supposed to be a spring under the pin you push to remove the driveshaft? I found the pin but can't find a spring. I don't see a spring shown on the parts diagram. Oh, I was looking for a tiny coil spring but after cleaning things up I see there is a spring type band inside the gear that the driveshaft slides over that the pin pushes against. I have it figured out now.

yes there is a spring.

the diagram page 10-24 of the service manual shows the spring.

I would suspect that with the lock pin inserted, you will notice the lock pin above the surface. ie. when the lock pin is pushed down, it comes up. although I have been advised by a service tech that it is possible for the spring to collapse.

Is the spring removable? don't know.

Yes it's like a spring band that expands against the inside of the gear. When the pin is in the hole of the gear it pushes against the spring band. This is it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kawasaki-391...MAAOSwHMJYKUOl
