No Top End

My 2004 Nomad seems to fissle out at about 90 miles an hour and has a hard time getting there. I do have a hypercharger on the bike that probably needs to be remapped. The bike runs good just has nothing up top. I have changed plugs, oil, coolant.

Any advice or thoughts?

Dale

Not all mods produce speed.

Nomads are Big Bikes meant more for Cruising than Hole shot to 100. That does not mean that they won't go fast - it's just not what they were built for. Also, So many add-ons make the bike look good or sound good but may not necessarily produce HP or Speed or MPG's. I know the biggest problem I had with my 2007 Nomad was the fact that the Big Tombstone windshield was like pushing a snow plow. Also, you don't mention Pipe's - More air in with a Hypercharger may not be as effective if you still have the Goat Belly and stock pipes. Bottom line - So many things make a difference.

The Hyperchargers is just a fancy BAK. It doesn't "do" anything other than allow a bit more air in. Since you could/would do the same with anything from Chucksters or something home made, don't expect it to perform miracles. As a matter of fact, it's been known to DECREASE the amount of air coming into the intake depending on what's in front of it (lowers, fairing, etc). It looks cool but if it were me and I was more interested in performance than looks (and I am), I'd remove it and install a more "generic" BAK.

Couldn't agree more with Monkeyman, Hyper-chargers are just that - hype with no real benefits.
And remember if you allow more air in it needs an exhaust that will handle the extra air to flow smoothly out.

Which GEAR you are in ? Top speed will only reached in FIFTH gear, not in six !

So . . . my Voyager is running more than 100 mph without any problem, but who cares about that speed ? I mean, I ride a cruiser, not a racer. Only tried it once to see how fast IS possible.

Cu,
Sven

It's the dreaded twin cylinder wall... I've owned a 1500 Goldwing since 2000 and had all the power I ever wanted. Then in 2015 I bought a Harley Davidson Street Glide Special, when I would be passing a group of cars I would hit a air wall at 180kph. At first I thought "what was that", but then it kept coming back, the "wall". Frustrated I bought a 2015 Kawasaki Vaquero and figured I wouldn't look back and sell the American make Icon, wall and all. But then to my astonishment it had a "wall" even lower than the Harley Davidson with the same size motor.
I still have my Goldwing (loving it still); can't sell the Harley (I put too much money in add ons); The Kawasaki is sold pending pick up next week.
By the way the ride is much smoother on the Vaquero than the Harley and with a 10 inch windshield you can hear the Vaquero's radio at highway speeds.
I should add it's not the reason I'm selling the bike, it's a great bike, I get lots of compliments on the look and color. I just don't have room for it in my garage, I have four bikes.

Not sure what wall you speak of. I have taken my Vaquero up to nearly 120 mph when I was testing maps and after exhaust, BAK and Ivan's flash she runs like a raped up. Never hit any wind walls.

Bounce that baby off the rev limiter in a couple different gears to clean out some carbon build up. Add gas additive when you gas up, make sure to clean throttle bodies/intake regularly, as well as air filter as needed. I have an 06 nomad, I hit over 90 in 3rd gear...

Same with me, big air and 2-1 pipe, Ivan tune on the ECU. The Vaquero sprints with ease to 100+ and still has plenty left and the 6th gear pulls like a blue ox from 70 up and great for passing. I contribute this to Ivan taking all the factory restrictions away from the ECU and advancing the timing, and other factors like fueling, etc. and all of this with no need to waste money on fueling devices like power commanders, Dobeck's, etc.

1700 vs 1500 that the OP has..........should be quite a bit different.

The 1500 is smoother than a Vaquero during acceleration. But hitting 100mph was tough on the 1500. I had the 1500 Classic for 10 years a 2007. Bought the 16 Vaquero in October last year. I have yet to hit 100 on it though. The day is coming but after the snow and then after the sand from the snow plows, and then after they fill the pot holes. ( Lost a rider here in Minneapolis last spring doing over 100 and hit a pot hole on the freeway)

Bring it down here, we don't have the white stuff/salt/pot hole problem you have.

We do get to play a fun game called 'Dodge The Idiot', and 'Miss The Old Idiot'.

They don't seem to have the ability to look before they pull in front of you.

But the roads are better, some are very good.

My 1500 Nomad will pull through the triple digit barrier fairly easily, while the 1500 Meanie blows through with ease.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the 1600 Meanie project does when finished, but that's another story.

Yea MAS, can't wait till you finish! The Meanie with a batwing fairing, some baby apes or dragbag bars w/10" risers, Nomad bags, maybe a 23" up front, Think it'd be a definite variation if needing a lighter bike than the Nomad.
