Your favorite car from your youth

A post by pcarrell got me thinkin about cars from my youth so Ithought it would be neat to hear about some of yours.
This was done a while back but with so many new members I thought it deserved a rebirth'

I think my coolest ride was a 1966 Ford Fairlane GT. Bought it new for $3000.
Red with black interior, 335 HP, 4 on the floor, red line wide oval tires.
I wish I had that car back.

MG Midget 1970 was mine. Roller skate on wheels, bought a Miata for my wife and it's close but just not the same. I got more girls in high school with the MG than you can shake a stick at or maybe it was just my good looks and charm.
Don't think I could get in one now, the Miata is too small for me and the Midget was even smaller!

If I had to choose out of all the cars I have owned it would have to be my first one. A 1965 and a half Pontiac GTO. 421 CI with tri power. Street tires back in 1970 were crap. It took cheater slicks to hold it down. It wasn't the fastest (01 Corvette) but it was the quickest car I ever owned. 7 MPG on 35 cent a gallon premium. What a fun time to have lived.

I also found out a couple years ago how rare it was. There were only 36 of them made with a 421 and they were never sold to the public. God only knows how it ended up five years later in that used car lot.

BTW my father didn't like me owning that car one bit.

My first car was a '66 Mustang coupe that my dad had bought brand new and handed down to me. Worked on it from 13 years old till I had to sell it at 17. Great car!

But my favorite car?

I had a '71 'Cuda when I graduated high school (early 80's, before prices went insane). 440 magnum with dual quads on a tunnel ram, slap stick auto on a floor console, aluminum slot wheels with the fattest raised white letter tires I could fit under the fender wells.....my dad used to say it'd pass anything but a gas station! I could pull the front tires off the ground in first a second gear with slicks on it.....that thing was a blast!

Had a lot of great cars over the years, but that 'Cuda was something special!

1955 Ford Popular cost me 20 pounds ($30) by todays U.K. exchange. Drove it for 12 months and sold it for $20. No heater, cable brakes, 6 volt lighting. On a good day it would do 55mph. 1172cc sidevalve engine.

1967 Chevy ll Nova. 327 small block.

That car would climb trees.

No really. LOL I went somewhere with my dad once to help him out. I came home and as we turned the corner there was my car sitting nosed up in a tree. My twin brother "borrowed" it and in an attempt to impress a girl named Charlotte climbed a damn tree when he lost control turning the corner I never did fix that car back up as I went in the Army.

I have had so many cars it is hard to pick but I guess it would have to be my 39 Chevy, it had a 350 ci Chevy with a 350 turbo trans, it was choped 4 inches with rack and pinion steering front disc brakes with PS.Pb,cruise, air, it was not the fastest car I nave had but I sure liked it.

I didn't like the car you pictured so I traded it. For some reason the suspension was a little on the stiff side

I had a '65 GTO. Bought it from my friend's older brother for $600 in 1975. It had the 389 tri-power and needed a paint job.

I really wish I had kept that car.

I hope you didn't have pipes on that thing! *snark*

Never had a chance to have a "cool" car back in my younger days as money was always too right. Had a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT in the "later" years, though. It was small enough to be convenient, fast enough to be fun, handled amazingly and just looked GOOD! Guy hit me from behind and totaled it... :(

I miss those days, cruisin' with the sunroof open.

One of these days, though, I'll inherit the "family" '67 Camaro RS with the ragtop. THAT is the coolest car I've ever experienced!

Cable brakes???? You're saying that UK Fords didn't have hydraulic brakes in 1955?

My favorite that I owned would be my '73 Camaro Z/28, 350 V/8 and 4 speed. The previous owner had done a little engine work, and added a Holley carb, Offenhauser intake and Hooker Headers. Maybe not the hottest car in town but it would haul ass when you hit the pedal.

However, if I had the big fat bank account what I'd really like to have in the garage is a '70 Chevelle SS454, red with the black rally stripes. But that's wishful thinking unless there's a rich uncle that I don't know about who has me in his will!
