Reversing the Debaffle

I am thinking about putting my baffles back in....I like the debaffled sound at low speed but not faster cruising speeds for extended periods of time. I prefer quiet.

Should I just slide them back in and have a welder tap weld them?

Any other suggestions?

There has been a couple of stock sets for sale in the parts forum for $100. You could make an offer on just the mufflers.

..you can't put the genie back in the bottle.

I'd try to find a set of stock mufflers and just swap 'em.

The baffles can be TIG welded if they are in decent shape. The problem would be stabbing the inside ends.

Reversing the Debaffle

Hey Schoeney,
I have a stock set that hasnt been touched if needed. When I bought the bike the owner had another set to debaffle, but never did..I had them done and took the stocks off and installed the complete set of debaffled.

I'll bet someone would trade you stock for yours! Put it in the parts section.

Dont see how you would need ear plugs with the debaffle set, way too quiet to start with. :-)

schoeney, take it from a expert. And not proud of it, but thats another story. I have, err, done this a couple of times, and on all occasions gone back to debaffled from stock. I missed that little low rumble. Problem is, my wife misses that Singer sewing machine. I wish the mufflers just had a quick release and then I would be in hog heaven.

Cut outs like we used on mufflers on cars in the 50's, 60's and 70's. You could run the just down from the manifold and open or close them when wanted.
