Dual color plasma LED rods

So I recently installed plasma LED rods eliminating the gawdy rear end lighting, making it sleek. Additionally mounted a LED radius license plate. Wiring on the LED rods was pretty straight forward until it came to getting the turn indicators to work properly. After 1-2 hrs on the phone with tech support (outstanding btw) we finally figured it out. Will post pics and instructions later if anyone is interested.

My friend has these as supplemental lighting on his Harley. I'm not so sure I would use them as my main lighting, during the day they are not all that bright. At night they are awesome though.

I'd like to add sleek brake lights to the bags on my 12 Nomad. What do you suggest?

So if I understand you correctly Demo man the only literature you claim that exists is comics? However here are some reassembly pics for those who wanted to see. Personally I think they are just as bright as the OEM signals. I'll post night pics and final assembly when able.

Instructions

Disclaimer, I am in no ways a master electrician; nor may the procedures listed below work for your particular application. They are intended to be a guide,to help with installation and to point out lessons/tricks I learned.

PARTS
J&P Cycles
138-367 RADIUS LED LICENSE PLATE FRAME 1 $44.99 $44.99
136-919 DUAL COLOR PLASMA RODS
138-448 PLASMA ROD DUAL CONVERTER
340-300 DUAL LOAD EQUALIZER

AMAZON

DEI 030306 Lite'N Boltz Accent Lighting - LED Lighted Button Head Bolts - Green (Pack of 2) 2 ea

1. Removed the rear taillight, 3 screws under rear fender.
2. Removed plastic wire cover under rear fender, 2 bolts.
3. Removed rear license plate / turn signal assembly, multiple bolts and
screws, start with chrome cover.
4. Cut wires that go to license plate light (Red +/ Blk yellow tracer -).
5 Soldered together wires from led bolts and LED license plate to
corresponding wires on bike (+/- respectively). I fabricated my license
plate bracket out of bar stock because all the pre fab ones pushed the
license plate to far out from the bike. I wanted sleek flowing lines. Of note
the LED bolts were larger than holes in LED license plate bracket so I had to
drill them out larger.
6. Cut wires from brake/running light on bike (blue/red) and spliced in LED
wires from plasma rods (red/blue). Note here that the you do not connect
like colors, in fact the opposite (bike red = plasma blue & bike blue =
plasma red). Not sure why, just what worked for correct brake and running
lights.
7. Cut turn signal wires on bike (green/ blk yellow tracer) spliced these wires
to the remaining turn signal wires on plasma rods (yellow). Here is where
the headaches started. First when i connected the wires (Green bike =
yellow plasma) all i got was red four way rapid flashing. Purchased a load
equalizer. Connected load equalizer per instructions (2 color wires to turn
signal and blk wire to ground). This eliminated the rapid flashing but
plasma still only illuminated red, no amber. Called Custom Dynamics tech
support took us about 2 hours to trouble shoot why no amber illumination.
Long story short I wired the bike (blk yellow tracer = yellow plasma) wire to
the plasma rods. Makes no sense considering this should be my ground
wire. I capped off the bike green turn signal wires and did not use them. I
soldered all connections and heat shrank wires since I'm not a fan of wire
connectors. They can be used though. One other neat item i found was
liquid rubber wire coating. This is like liquid heat shrink, just brush on area
that you want insulated and let dry. Found this at Walmart for about $4 for
a small bottle, but I'm sure you can purchase elsewhere.
8. Insulated all connections.
9. Reassembled all removed components.

I am happy with the results, as I previously stated, the rear of the bike flows nicely now and looks great. I personally think the plasma rods are bright enough for day and definitely are bright enough at night. As you can see in pics they are about the same brightness as the rear light.

Thank you for the parts list! Nice job thank you for sharing.
I am mentally challenged, would you mind providing the final wiring color scheme?
bike green = Plasma Yellow etc. for all the USED connections? That will save me two hours on the phone with tech support!
Ride safe,
Smokier

Connections
Brake & tail light
BIKE ~ PLASMA ROD
red ~ blue
blue ~ red

Turn signals
(again not sure why blk & yellow should have been green wires on bike, but this is what worked). The turn sipignals are not color specific for each side, either label when you cut or just hook up to figure out.
BIKE ~ PLASMA ROD
blk & yellow ~ yellow
blk & yellow ~ yellow

Only wire left on Plasma Rod is Black which can be grounded anywhere. I found a close bolt on the frame.
One other item to mention I blew about 3 ea 10A turn signal fuses in my wiring conundrum, no big deal but you might want to have a few spares on hand.
