Waving I am pretty sure, but is this normal?

Just got my V&H slip ons for my Vaquero. Came in two days. Just installed them, took about 1 hour and I took my time. What a difference. Bike sounds deep and throaty like a true v twin. Still a far cry from the samson exhaust I have on my 1500 classic. I should be able to hear tunes with no problem. I thought they would be louder.

They smoked out my garage when I started the bike and let her idle a bit. I am guessing that is the packing on the baffles burning in from start up. I am pretty sure anyway. Thoughts anyone?

So I take it you wanted them loud enough so you could not hear your tunes

sheesh

Everyone is missing my question. I am very happy with the tone of the new slipons. I am glad they are not loud, just a deep rich tone.

My question was, is it normal for the pipes to smoke alot at the first start up?

I believe it isnthe packing on the baffles or something internal burning in and should clear up with some ride time. I was looking for reassurances or answers from people that have installed after market slip ons.

Yes, it's normal. The internal parts have a coating on them to prevent rust. It will burn off after a short while.

Thanks Cactus Jack, i was pretty sure but it has been 10 years since I installed an exhaust on a bike. I didnt remember my Samson exhaust making all that smoke when I installed on my 1500 classic. I will be sure to get it burned off tonight on my way to Hooters bike night. Supposed to drop to 50 degrees in S. Florida, so should be nice riding weather.

Sound Clip.

Took a quick video of start up, idle and some revving. It is uploading to youtube now. I will post the link once it is done uploading. Hopefully youtube does not tell me 235 mb is too large a file.

ID Man.

Let me see what I can do. I have to move the bikes around to get a clip of the 1500 classic. It will echo too much as far as the bike is in the garage. She has to be closer to the door to get a true sense of the sound coming from the exhaust.
