Have you hit an animal on your bike?

So far I have killed 6 birds, 1 squirrel, and 2 snakes. Last summer I had a buck deer jump out in front me on a black top. It fell and slid right across my path. I braked as hard as I could without sliding and at the last minute I let up on the brakes and drove over the deer's hind legs. It jump up and run off. Yes I was very lucky! I have also very nearly hit a buffalo, several ground squirrels, 2 turkey's and 2 turkey buzzards.

Have you hit an animal on your bike?

Shep, it happened about 11-12 years ago in Afton,Oklahoma. I was landing in a C-172 and the deer ran right out in front of me as I was flared for a landing. Was nothing I could do about it. Surprisingly enough it made it past the prop ( deer was running right to left ), but the left main got it and flipped it into the air and it landed on the left horizontal stabilizer. The airplane was not hurt too bad but the deer was in bad(dead) shape.Luckily it was a very small, just a baby, maybe 50-60 lbs.

Meanstreak,
I bet that got your heart pumping. I never saw the one I hit. I was in a Pitts Special and you can't see the runway after you flare, so never knew what hit me. It tore the right lower wing off and damaged the top wing. However my buddy and I were OK, and the plane was insured. It is a wonder we didn't end up on our back or worse. The plane was similar to this one but a two place.
The plane in the photo, weighed the same as my Nomad, (750-800 lbs) however 360 CID fuel injected engine. My Nomad is pretty tame in comparison
When I tell the story, the most asked question is, " How high were you"

Have you hit an animal on your bike?

I had a bird fly into the bike at a very low angle. I looked behind but didn't see the bird on the road so I thought oh well and went on with the ride. I rode about 8 miles and finally stopped at a traffic light. I felt something hit my boot and then my shins as I was sitting at the light - looked down in time to see the frigging bird jump down onto the road next to the bike. He had feathers sticking up everywhere! He sat there a minute and then hopped off to the side of the road. I was stunned. I didn't kill the bird and he went for a nice long ride stuck to the bottom of the engine (ouch). I wonder what he would have said if he could have talked>

I hit a squirrel doin about 75 flipped him in the air and he crashed into my buddy's Triumph windshield. Left a little juice on the shield, and scared the bejebbers outta him. Had 3 deer jump out in front of me while test riding a 05 Triumph Tiger and managed to stop in time. If I was on the Nomad It would've been ugly, big deer and no way I could've stopped the Nomad in time. I drive cautiously in that area now ( 1/2 mi from home)

Meanstreak. The deer incident happened while I was flying by buddy's Pitts. The white one in the photo was mine. I sold it a few years ago. I do miss it sometimes...

Have you hit an animal on your bike?

Not long after I got my bike, the wife and I were riding down the parkway. Low and from the side of the road a huge bird, either a hawk or owl flew out of the woods. Took it out with the right windshield lower. Rode for a couple feet with it stuck there then it fell off.
Last year ran over a chipmunk, looked like a leaf blowing across the road. Heard it crunch under the front tire.

I had a bee sting me on a ride right in my eye brow, couldn't find the stinger. I was in a rural area and stopped at a house and asked for a pair of tweezers and the use of their bathroom to find it.

Been stung on the wrist, between the glove and sleeve.

Had a bee get in my helmet, but got it off with no drama.
