I don't like the heat or for that matter the sun. I wear a half when its hot and its silver to reflect the sun, OH, it also matches by bike too :)

I have seen several test concerning the black vs white helmet heat issue. The results showed very little difference inside the helmet temperature especially when moving. The test showed the insulation/impact foam did its job.I personally think it doesn't make much difference when it comes to helmets.I have both black and white helmets and never noticed much difference.Could it possibly be the psychological effect taking place? If you put your coffee in a black cup would it be to hot to hold?I guess it boils down to what works for you and what makes you feel comfortable.

mind over matter. No mind so it doesn't matter

In Pa. you don't need a helmet so it is cooler, so if you don't have mind it doesn't matter either

I feel a little more secure with a lid.

My HJC modular was not good with ventelation (glad it broke, it was POS). My full face is a little better. I have a friend that has a Scorpion that he says is the best he's ever had. Said he has to close his vents much sooner on it than any other.

If I had the money, I'd get a Schuberth C-3.

It's a very quiet helmet and from what I understand, vents well too.

Gee Ponch, are you getting partial to all things German? If I had your money I might get one too?

I see there is a dealer not too far so I'll look next time we are over there, just out of curiosity.

I frequent BMW forums as I own one. I do not have a schuberth, but I read a lot of posts and many of those people do have the money for the very best gear. The schuberth is one helmet many speak highly of and BMW uses their helmets as their OEM in Europe. Yes it is expensive, but I imagine it is very good too. I would think the Shoei multitec would be good as well.

BMW riders do seem to spend for all the safety gear, unlike HD riders who spend for all the (safety) leather.

Just an observation so I could be wrong.

My observation is that one side is driven more by function, the other form. BMW riders tend to be ATGATT types. Lots of textile suits, top of the line helmets, boots, gloves etc. All proper gear. No fingerless gloves, flip flops or beanies. I am more like a HA in comparison and I can tell you they tend to be an anal bunch. That's fine, but at some point you have to say it's good enough. I'll also say they tend to ride a lot more than the average rider. Certainly a lot more than I do.

Okay, now that I have googled ATGATT to learn it means 'all the gear all the time' you'll have to help me with 'ha'.

As for riding time, that's hard to come by. We here in the US work too many days and hours. -CB

Hells Angel. Some of the American BMW riders average well over 1000 miles a week and there are plenty with over 1,000,000 miles lifetime. I have no idea where they find the time or how they can afford it.

I know a lot of BMW riders and most are LD (long distance) riders. They do IBA rides and long RTE's. I know a couple that took their BMW's on an eastern trip from FL to Maine, with some riding in the mountains of NC/GA and touring up in New England area. Don't know the total mileage they did but probably north of 4K total each over the 10-14 days they were gone.

If everything goes as planned, I should hit near 5K in 9 days going to and from the redwoods.
