Terrible start to Americade

A couple from my area headed to Lake George were killed on n9 when a tractor trailer braked hard to miss bikes slowing down in front of him. His load of steel beams shifted and hit a couple from Quebec traveling in the opposite direction killing them instantly I believe. Dam I hate trucks.

I know we need the trucks and the service they provide but I'm with you in that I hate them on the roads.

I don't hate trucks....I hate truck drivers that don't properly secure their load.

A lot of the over the road traffic would be cut down if we used rail more. Trains can carry a lot more than trucks.

One thing I noticed while traveling in the states this week was that you see a lot of blown tires on the roads there compared to Ontario. We used to see them a lot here, but they have really clamped down on truck inspections the last couple years and cleaned things up.
We have very heavy fines and impound fees here if your caught with any mechanical defects.

You may be right Steve we came upon a truck in the middle of shredding a tire on I-81 yesterday. Bits of rubber for a half mile or more and the smell of burnt rubber, then we caught up to the truck still traveling at highway speed with one of the right side trailer tires flat and beating it's self to death. We passed quickly and got the heck out of there.

I came up in a time that truckers and bikers shared the road and a deep respect for each other. Its a shame to see so many big rigs out there these days that are "anything for a $". I know that they are not the majority, just the ones getting the attention. . . and the casualties.

That is a terribly unfortunate accident... sorry to hear about it.

Trucks make me nervous; so I do my best to stay away from them as much as possible.

Going down to MV and coming back... it was impossible to get away from them though.

I agree with inspections being needed. I have never seen so many shredded tire-caps on the roads before. It must be something with that area... or something.

The cabins where we stay at are in the middle of an 'S' turn, traffic was backed up for a long time. There is an accident it seems, every year in that section of 9N. The people next door to us had been in the traffic jam, and told us about the accident. I guess it was about a mile from where we stay. It was very sad news. Prayers were sent that day for them. Thinking of their families today.

SAY THAT WITH A MOUTH FULL, WILL YA? BEING A TRUCKER, I HATE FOUR WHEELERS ON THE ROADS TOO. DOES THAT MAKE US EVEN? GET REAL.. IT HAPPENS WHEN ONE LEAST EXPECTS IT. CHANCES ARE, THE TRUCKER NEVER KNEW THE LOAD WOULD KILL THAT SPECIFIC COUPLE WHEN HIS LOAD CAME LOSE, I'M SURE HE REALLY INTENDED TO KILL THAT COUPLE. I PULL OUT EACH WEEK ON THE ROAD IN MY 18 WHEELER KILLING MACHINE TO SEE HOW MANY JERKS I CAN KILL AFTER THEY CUT ME OFF, TRY TO PLAY CHICKEN OR WHAT HAVE YOU. SIT IN MY SEAT FOR A WEEK OR TWO AND SAY YOU HATE TRUCKS. NUFF SAID! :-/

It's not just there. I just got back from a west coast trip and saw plenty of rubber alligators. I too saw a trucker lose a tire in Nevada and kept going. WTF? One rule that would help is no trucks in the left lane, especially on three lane roads. Inspections would help too, but I bet there is a lot of pressure on the truckers to deliver and they are limited to the number of hours they can drive in a day. As I said earlier, rail would be a better way for some freight.

It's a very good policy not to follow a truck. Ever.
