Damn Greg, just saw this. Glad to hear that you are still vertical. As stated before, the bike will be replaced. We just can't replace you there buddy. Take care and I can relate to how a hand hurts.

Greg,
Sorry to hear this. I guess this would be like hitting black ice. This make me want to wear my full face helmet all the time now. I usually wear a 3/4 with full face shield. I hope the shield will help some. I've heard, statically, that most people hit face first when going down. It won't surprise me if they total your bike. I've heard if that cross member on the front down tubes that the engine guards connect to is bent, insurance companies will call that frame damage. I've heard they will not go with just straighting it, they'll want a frame replacement . If it's totaled, I think we should start a pool here on KawaNow as to what replacement bike you'll buy. My bet is a K1600GTL :) All kidding aside, heal up quick! |

I can say when I went down, I was wearing a Scorpion EXO-200 which is a 3/4 helmet with a full shield. At some point, my face hit the asphalt and the shield saved me from injury.

Looking at Scott's footer pictures you can see how much face damage a minor crash can do! I bet shaving has to be tough with that mug staring back at you in the mirror huh???
A prime example to wear a full face helmet if I every saw (Yuck) one!

When my buddy hit the guard rails and fractured his lower leg in 94 places, he was wearing a 3/4 helmet with full faceshield. Didn't scratch his face at all.
I am still wearing my Fullface helmet 100% of the time though.

Been talking to the insurance company most of the morning. Amazing how many departments you have to talk to.
Anyway; they are picking-up the bike tomorrow to be looked at. The adjuster mentioned that they do not authorize "fixing" anything on a bike if it as been broken, cracked, or bent. New replacement parts is all they'll allow. They will allow paint re-touch for scratches though. Some of these scratches are going to take a bucket of paint! I told them the bike flipped when it hit the ditch. The adjuster thought maybe that would have bent the frame some. If so, it is totaled. It was somewhat rideable; but you couldn't go much more than 30 MPH before some shaking occurred. (I had someone help get the bike home; which is how we know its "rideability".) Insurance is aleady sending me a check for a new helmet based on what I told them mine cost -- which was kind-of cool. For those wondering... I was wearing a half-helmet. The only part of my face that was scratched badly was the left jaw-line. Looks more like I cut myself shaving. A full-face would have stopped that from happening most certainly. Regarding going-down in the wreck, I was certainly headed face-first to the pavement. I just saw it coming and turned my head a split-second before hitting the road so the helmet could hit first. Again... it saved me big-time. Insurance is paying me an additional $500 for having worn a helmet in an accident (besides the replacement cost). I thought that was kind-of interesting. Sort of like a bonus I guess.

Glad to hear some good news coming your way Greg... I know those drugs last night were having you repeating to me, what you'd buy if they totaled your HD and you were murmuring to me something that sounded like "Thunderbird 1700".....

I asked my insurance adjuster if they would reimburse me for my helmet and I was told they don't pay for damaged gear in AZ. I guess it varies from state to state.
